Whumptober Alternative 3
Prompt: Comfort
Kat can tell Kris is having a bad day when they don’t show up to school. It’s not the first time, and she doubts it will be the last either. Their senses just aren’t kind to them sometimes - she can understand that. She wishes she could stay home sometimes, but her mom would never allow it, and she isn’t sneaky enough to do it anyway.
She goes to their house after school, climbing in through the window after knocking on it to announce her presence. She finds them curled up on their bed, twisted into their sheets, shaking, and sweating. She sets her backpack down and climbs up next to them, untangling them from their sheets for safety and settling down within cuddling range. She can feel how cold they are, even from inches away.
Almost the instant they can, Kris pulls her close, their grip a bit tighter than usual. She just starts purring as they sign with trembling hands, Thanks.
No problem.
She never really knows what’s going on on days like this. She knows it has something to do with their possession and the way they stopped it, but the details are a mystery to her. Even still, they’re her best friend. She’d do anything for them, even if all she can really do is just be there.
So, that’s what she does. She stays with them, purring and being a mini space heater, until they’re not shaking as much and can actually hold a conversation, however choppily.
Can you get me some water? they ask after a while.
Yeah, no problem. She gets up, walking to the kitchen and getting them some water. Toriel, luckily, doesn’t see her - not that it’d be that big a deal; she’s over here all the time - as she seems busy with paperwork at the table, so she takes the glass back up to Kris.
They down it in one go, setting the glass on the nightstand. Can we keep cuddling?
She nods, climbing back up and settling near them. They both get comfortable, and Kat starts purring again.
They spend most of the day like that, talking occasionally. It’s a welcome reprieve from the chaos of her house, so Kat intends on taking every moment she can to help them.
