There is a certain genre or at least niche of ambient music that is just so….comforting? Like it’s really depressing to an extent but also feels like home. I can lose myself in the vibes and let all the emotions repressed for years and years just flow. It takes me back to being a teenager laying in bed, 3am on a school night listening to sad music, staying up so late I knew I’d hate myself in the morning, but for these hours only I exist. The world is at peace and I could lose myself in a world of music that brought out emotions that I struggled to grasp during the day. General teenage angst and feeling out of place in the world, as most do coming into the world. And I guess I never really outgrew that teen, just repressed it and moved on. But somehow hearing a song that utilizes haunting sustained chords, small notes that feel like whispers in an abandoned building, reverberation that surrounds you like a blanket, it just feels like belonging.
