It happens so quickly; one minute Sonny is in the living room with their youngest and the next he’s calling out Amanda’s name and rushing to join her in the bathroom. Jesse’s bathtime is interrupted by her father absolutely beaming --- excitement radiating from him as he bounces her sister in his arms. “ --- ‘Manda, she said it! I swear, I heard her, she said it --- didn’t you, G? Can you show her? Can you say ‘daddy’ again? Say ‘daddy.’ Da-ddy.” Sure enough, the baby repeats the sounds and Sonny? Lord, but he seems to be over the moon.

"I can’t believe it. I mean, she’s had ‘mommy’ down forever but, wow.” At the sound, Grazi switches her tune and begins a chorus of babbled ‘mommy’s --- though it doesn’t seem to snuff out Sonny’s fatherly pride.

            taken aback, caught off-guard. the mere mention of his name, even just his last, steals the breath caught in her throat and she chokes on water. wide brown eyes meet clear blue and she shakes her head, glass placed by her side as she leans against the edge of her desk, arms folding over chest.     ‘     how did you     --     ‘     cutting herself off, olivia’s lips purse and she exhales slowly. were she more prepared for this particular line of questioning, she would have a ready response. something that doesn’t cause her stomach to twist or her heart to ache.     ‘     he was my partner, that’s all.     ‘     a slight click of her jaw as it crooks when she looks up, half-hearted shrug accompanying the narrow of her eyes and the tilt of her head.     ‘     why’re you asking about stabler     ?     he’s gone.     ‘
