The Fallen Warrior

Sunlight flitters down from above Flashes of brown hair Flowers flying through the air The beauty of a twirling girl Reflects in my eyes Twinkling joy and hopes Revolve around my friend before me. But my eyes,  Full of good intent, Lie.  The light dims, flowers fall To drying grass and star tipped leaves Warm cheeks turn cold Frosty white skin burning internally from mistakes, allusions, and hormones. Her eyes, they dull, Just as her body shrinks to bones. A twirling, beautiful girl fades to the shadow of what was. Lighters and money bags replace Bibles and books. Gun smoke joins the green  aromas of escape. So escape. Run.  Into this world you've created.  For the things you love most, Are the demons pulling your puppet strings.
