I’ve been struggling these past few days; grief has a way of sneaking up on me and sucker punching me in the gut whenever it wants. I’ve not been sleeping well either which doesn’t help matters, and my MS has been whispering in my ear that a flare may be coming. I also found out last night that an event I had my heart on attending in July will not be doable for me this year. I have the above quote written on the first page of my gratitude journal. It brings me comfort on the hardest of days, like today. My tears have been flowing off and on since last night but that’s okay because, like gas, they’re better out than in (🙄). That’s the beauty of my life, finding the good and the humour in every day. I’ve done that all my life, but I’ve had to work harder on it, on finding gratitude, ever since my son died. No matter how low we may sink into the abyss, there is always, always, something to be grateful for. Today, I am grateful for the love of my family and the memories that we have of a loving son and brother. I’m grateful that my body has ways of reminding me that I need to rest and take care of myself in the hopes of keeping a flare at bay. While I’m disappointed that I won’t be able to attend the July event as I had hoped, I’m grateful for whatever opportunity may present itself instead. I’m also grateful for my grief because it reminds me of the deep love my son and I shared. And, I am ever so grateful for you, you who are reading this post ❤️.
