10. Does your narrator move from character to character?

It depends on the story really! More often than not though I tend to only move from character to character between chapters. If I don’t change between chapters then it’s generally just one character I’m focusing on. If I move from character to character I get a little confused and it makes the story feel a little wobbly in its progression. 

17. What is your best piece of advice for writing hurt/comfort scenes?

Find the right piece of music to listen to! Something slow, a song that you can attribute some sadness to so that you can feel the scene. Feeling the hurt that the characters feel is important, because it’ll make it more genuine and add a lot more depth. As for the comfort portion my advice would be to slowly transition into a happier song, which will make the comforting smooth.

29. How do you plot your stories?

I simply get a post-it note and try to fill it with basic plot points that I want to add into it. Just some bullet points of basic ideas, and then I start writing my story. It’s as simple as that really; I don’t like to over-complicate it because if I plan it too much I tend to lose motivation (even though that’s really backwards)!

What are your top 5 colors? 😊

Oooo this is an interesting one! Thanks so much lovely! 🥰💕 I’m going to approach this as if it’s mark-making colours and/or paint that I use most!

1. Black is easily taking the top spot! Most of my drawings are monochrome either because they are sketches while out and about (where it’s important to get the marks down quickly for me!), or because my favourite markming tools tend to be black. Fine liners in particular are 🤤

2. Blue! It’s not a line making colour I use often but a colour I find deeply pleasurable to use when rendering artwork! It’s so easy to pair deep Prussian blue with a lovely yellow ochre and, oh, but that’s practically the entire Terror uniform aesthetic, right?

3. Brown. I love sketching using a light brown ink as well as using brown/tanned paper stock! I always associate different shades of brown with things that are soft in texture and personality, like a man’s hair or shadows on his face.

4. Yellow. It’s actually a favourite colour and most of my accessories are in this bright pigment! Yellow is possibly my favourite primary colour and I’m pretty sure it’s the paint I run out of most for use!

5. Turquoise. This colour is just so brilliant to mix on a palette of paint... a dab of Prussian blue, a wedge of creamy cadmium yellow hue, and it’s like magic 😍

I love to draw in my sketchbook and add elements from real life like the first image, where the young boy holds a flower to represent a pinwheel! I also love drawing live, like this lecture I observed when visiting my old degree a couple of years ago! 🥰
