I had another questions about Famiglia Familie. I know you've mentioned Max having multiple surgeries on his wrist, do you know how many and when? Does he have to get another one when he's an adult or are they all in his teen yesrs?

about the surgeries– this might get a little long, so bear with me here.
I've mentioned the surgeries in the directors cuts for the chapters twice, but I'll reiterate two of those points here:
- Max's arm is bothering him a bit while he's still stuck in the seatbelt, but the way that it has him restrained, (which he can't see) is actually doing him a bit of a favor at that point in the fic. It's cutting off blood flow, so Max isn't feeling how majorly fucked up his own bones are. (For curious minds: in this fic, Max has a spiral fracture down the body of his right distal ulna, comminuted fractures across his fingers in a few spots, and an impact fracture on the distal end of his right radius. There's some impact damage on the proximal ends as well, where the elbow joint forms, but it's not as severe as the fingers and wrist.)
if you're not familiar with fractures and the different types, the injury description can be summarized as: his hand/wrist/forearm is kind of fucked. I did a quick google scout for what I think that hardware would probably look like, which you can see below.
the second bit I mentioned was here:
- Max goes into emergency surgery to handle some of the worst parts of his arms and fingers, but the hospital is still super clear with GP that Max needs to have some follow ups. (Max ends up with some serious hardware in his hand. He still has struggles with fine motor skills, and he's got killer osteoarthritis in his fingers, wrist, and forearm, but the brace helps with it.
in the fic, max is sedated and taken to the OR for emergency surgery on the worst of it. that's when most of initial hardware is put in, but the hospital stresses how important following up back in the UK is, because it's a serious amount of hardware for someone that young, and there needs to be regular check-ins to make sure that things are healing properly and that his bones are growing and repairing in the correct ways.
in the ficlet where GP visits jos' grave, he mentions that they're thinking they might need another surgery on max's wrist– this is because the hardware has encouraged the bone to grow slightly differently, and the orthopedic team wants to go and "clean" it up, if that makes sense.
for the most part, Max's surgeries are in his teen years. there's a possibility when he's a bit older that maybe some of that hardware can be removed as his bones heal, but I've not particularly thought too far in that direction.
as far as the healing process, he's got about 6-9 months of rehab that he has to do. progress is slow initially for a couple reasons, the first being that it's hard to communicate with his occupational therapist when he can't speak and can't sign, so he's stuck writing feedback with his left hand, and at 14 his english is passable, but he's missing a lot of medical words that he's never needed to know before.
the second reason progress is slow is because max struggles with the fact that the exercises he's being given aren't a challenge. he's stubborn to a fault and hates admitting he can't do something, especially at that age so fresh out of the accident (think about his regular stubbornness, and then combine it with his denial that this injury is as serious as it is. he still thinks he might be able to "work through it" and make it like it never happened). so his OT has to remind him many, many times that it's important for him to tell them if a specific action or motion is hurting him.
