i should be asleep but i’m having feels about brakin and alys
alys managed to get a bounty on her head and before mama bear tahiri could get it removed brakin picks it up and starts hunting her; due to faulty equipment brakin gets caught in an explosion
and alys being the bundle of sunshine that she is drags this six-foot-tall sith-blooded hunter back to her ship and patches him up
brakin doesn’t know how to respond to this kindness for a while and finally says he’ll ignore the bounty
Yes, mine. Same day as last year. But I'm really excited this year, because Uncle Loren said he has a huge surprise for me. Said we're going to cause havoc all over town. Mom doesn't approve, 'cause Mom doesn't know how to have fun. BUT I am an adult, I can do what I want, kind of. Also she said we could go, so yay!
I've got plans too, for after my birthday. I'm kinda hesitant to write them down in case someone peeks at them. Dad assured me no one would, but Mom says it's smart to worry about that kind of thing. I wonder if I can encrypt my journal. I should look into that before I write anything down. Hang on.
Okay, it looks kind of simple. I can figure it out, anyway. But here's my plan. I want to be a smuggler, like Mom and Uncle Loren, but I want to do it myself, yunno? So step one, get a ship. Still working on that. After I have a ship, I just have to get involved in some criminal enterprises.
This all sounds really badly thought out now that I've written it down. I should work on that. I'm not very good at planning, that's Beto's thing.
Trigger warning for gore and generally dark writing
This job for example. Simple bit of infiltration, carry a few parcels in and out. Sounded fun. Never mind that there was currently a blockade around the city. She could fool them easily.
Easily. It had happened so easily.
She held her wrist tight to her shoulder and tried not to look at it, tried not to think about how the knife had slid through her skin like water.
"Who hired you?! Last chance, pirate!"
"Let go of me!"
She'd been screaming and pulling away from that vice-grip, and then she'd slipped away. By the time the guards had realized it, she'd already made it outside. She didn't know how long she'd been running or where she was. She didn't know where her hand was. She risked a glance at her wrist and her stomach twisted. That was a bad idea. This entire job had been a bad idea.
Nice of her to realize that now.
Alys tilted her head away from her wrist, gaze blurring for a moment. She blinked at the bright blue neon blotch in the distance until it came into focus. A medcenter, just at the end of the street. She laughed weakly at her bizarre luck, then judged the distance.
She could make that. She could get up.
Holding her wrist tight to her shoulder she struggled to her feet. It took a few tries to convince her legs to work, but work they did. She clung to the wall as she stumbled and lurched her way down the street, pausing often to catch her breath. Finally she reached the door, or what she hoped was the door, her vision kept blurring in and out.
"Hello and welcome..." the voice died, then cried out in alarm. "Doctor Wren! It's alright, miss, you'll be alright now."
She happily gave up control of her motor functions to this voice, a relieved sigh escaping her as she felt herself lifted up and placed somewhere soft and dry. More voices were talking now, agitated. She didn't pay much attention, too pleased with her success. She'd made it.
