my pfp and username might betray this but house farman, to me, is the most interesting minor house. they're one of the only houses outside of the iron isles described as having had longships since the dawn age, joined the westerlands through marriage alliance instead of conquest, and have been absolutely wrecked by the ironborn more times than can be counted but have always bounced back up.

this is without mentioning elissa farman, who was more likely than not in a sapphic romance with rhaena targaryen, is implied to have been one of her ladies who rode upon dreamfyre, stole three dragon eggs that have been heavily theorised to be the eggs that eventually hatched into a new generation of dragons and sailed west of westeros. they even get mentioned in the future as one of cersei's companions who joined her to visit maggie the frog, meaning a farman was present for yet another significant magical event.

and to my despair, their only on screen appearance if it happens at all will probably be them being kerb stomped by dalton greyjoy. devastating.

Elissa Farman

Elissa Farman was a noblewoman, lady-in-waiting and sister-in-law of Rhaena Targaryen as the sister of her third husband, Andrew Farman. Elissa was considered Rhaena's great love, but she loved the sea and exploration more than Rhaena.

Their relationship cooled after they moved from Fair Isle to Dragonstone, where Elissa was not happy, and after unsuccessfully asking Rhaena to finance her a ship, Elissa stole three dragon eggs that she avenged on the Sealord of Braavos. With the money, she outfitted a ship, the Sun Chaser, changed name in Alys Westhill, and sailed west. Elissa was never seen again, but many years later Corlys Velaryon claimed to have seen the wreck of her ship docked at Asshai.

In the Asoiaf fandom, it is a popular theory that the eggs stolen by Elissa are the ones that, more than two centuries later, were given to Daenerys Targaryen.

I like Elissa Farman's arc in Fire and Blood. Sure it's pretty shitty how she steals Dreamfyre's dragon eggs and betrays Rhaena but she had a goal in mind and she accomplished it which is pretty admirable. She set out to explore the whole of the Sunset Sea and even went as far as Asshai and was probably the first to do so. She was wild and an adventurer at heart and it was understandable in a way that she was tired of the monotony of Dragonstone and wanted to leave in search of greater pursuits despite the fact that she may have loved Rhaena.

She gives me Arya at the end of GOT season 8 vibes and I like it.

She sailed her own boat around Fair Isle at the age of four-and-ten, and by the time she was twenty she had voyaged as far north as Bear Island and as far south as the Arbor. Oftimes, to the horror of her lord father and lady mother, she spoke of her desire to take a ship beyond the western horizon to learn what strange and wondrous lands might lie on the far side of the Sunset Sea. The scant writings she left behind show that even as a child Elissa Farman was convinced the world was “far larger and far stranger than the maesters imagine.” Not for her the merchant’s dream of reaching Ulthos and Asshai by sailing west. Hers was a bolder vision. Between Westeros and the far eastern shores of Essos and Ulthos, she believed, lay other lands and other seas waiting to be discovered: another Essos, another Sothoryos, another Westeros. Her dreams were full of sundering rivers and windswept plains and towering mountains with their shoulders in the clouds, of green islands verdant in the sun, of strange beasts no man had tamed and queer fruits no man had tasted, of golden cities shining underneath strange stars. Where her adventure ended we cannot say. The Sun Chaser vanished into the west, still searching for the lands beyond the Sunset Sea, and was never seen again...
