What The Future Holds

I don’t think I’ll follow the path of a professional whister. I think anting to be a writer is financially unstable enough for me. Plus, I love whistling. It’s my hobby. It’s beautiful. A stress reliever. I whistle along to the radio more than I sing. Though I do use some breathing techniques I learned from my years in choir when I whistle.

Overall, it’s nothing I’d want to be commercialized. Plus, I couldn’t even do the whistling part of Rockin’ Robin when my choir asked in high school. I’ve grown a bit out of my stage fright, but I’m still not sure I’d be able to get myself up on a stage to do any activity.

The Call

I can whistle a very high pitch. It’s been called my dog whistle, though trust me humans can hear it just fine. I tend to get dirty looks when I do it in public.

In high school, though, my friend Jamie could hit basically the same note. She couldn’t whistle as melodic as me, but she could hit that obnoxious pitch just the same.

Since we were the only ones that could do that whistle, we started using it in at school to find each other. In the crowded halls, students trampling each other to get to the buses or the cafeteria, I would catch sight of her blond head bobbing amongst the masses.

I’d let ouf a sharp whistle and see her pause, looking around until she caught sight of me and broke from the crowd to wait until I caught up. This happened all through high school, one of us searching out the other.

Sometimes I would even let out the whistle on the way to the bathroom or when walking to the computer lab or library. All in hope that Jamie, or any of my friends, would her it.

It was an odd sort of connection.
