On Wednesday, Claire and I adventured up to Le Point des Almadies, which is the western-most point of continental Africa (yes, Africa is a continent, not a country! Go figure!). We were worried about actually getting to see it, since there is a huge resort tailored to western tourists situated on the point, and we weren't sure if they'd let two derpy students inside without paying. With determined faces, straight backs, and fast walks, we tried our best to look like we belonged. And it worked! We went right in the gate, through the hotel, past the guests chilling by the pool, and down to the beach without a question. We took pics on the point, explored the hotel, and chilled by the pool until a staff member asked if we were staying at the hotel, since we looked out of place as two young people sitting poolside in jeans. Even though he believed us when Claire told him we did, we decided it would be best to leave.
On our way back home, we stumbled upon the American Food Store. In reality, it was nothing but a regular old American grocery store, but we couldn't help getting a little too excited over pop-tarts, cake mix, and everything needed for a taco night...It's been a while. We just HAD to leave with something, so I bought a can of Mountain Dew, the glorious nectar and king of pops. After a while in the fridge, I shared my prize with Michou and drank up. It was worth it.
