For the past 10 years residents of some towns and villages including Asante Akyem Agogo and the Afram plains in Ghana have complained about the brute activities of Fulani herdsmen, and how these activities are destroying their livelihoods. Some reports say these Fulani herdsmen intentionally allow their cattle to graze on people's farms, and when farm owners complain, they are attacked (sometimes killed) by these herdsmen. About 3 years ago, these activities caused rage among Ghanaians to the extent that some people asked the government to sack all Fulanis from the country or find a lasting solution to the menace. if not, they'll personally wage war against them. The government then implemented "operation cow leg" to curb the menace. During "operation cow leg," Military men were deployed to these communities to help protect residents against violent Fulani herdsmen. The Fulani community in Ghana also asked that Ghanaians don't generalize the activities of some herdsmen. Yesterday, I met Amadu, a Fulani herdsman at Kpone Katamanso whiles he was taking his cattle to graze on a bare land. He's being doing this job since he was six years old, and now has about 86 cattle in his care. In our conversation about the Fulani herdsmen issue, he said it is true that some herdsmen are violent but people should always remember that not all of them are like that. . . 📷: Nana Osei - Ghana . . #kpone #kponekatamanso #Accra #Ghana #Africa #herdsmen #fulani #cattle #graze #Amadu #operationcowleg #fulaniherdsmen #government #farm #farmers #streetstyle #streetphotography #residents #military #towns #villages #everydayafrica #accrawedey (at Katamanso, Volta, Ghana)
