In observance of Galería de la Raza’s 44th anniversary, we pause to honor and reflect on the contributions and visions of one of our own: Ralph Maradiaga. His unerring gift of leadership combined with his own unique talents and skills contributed greatly to the broader understanding of Chicano/Latino art, and subsequently cemented the Latino presence on both the national and international art scenes.

Sun in Scorpio is presented at a time of resurgence in art, heritage, and activism along the Calle 24 Cultural Corridor. As we look to the future, we contemplate on the legacy of our local leaders, such as Ralph Maradiaga, who gave rise to one of the most iconic Latino cultural corridors of our time. His astute business savvy and dedicated commitment to community influenced and supported many individuals and local organizations. In this spirit and in celebration of what would have been his 80th birthday, we present the art of Ralph Maradiaga, and pay tribute to his accomplishments as an individual, a leader, a mentor, and true Renaissance man of his time and place.
