The 40th Chicago Marathon took place today on a beautiful October morning. The men’s winner was Galen Rupp (2:09:20). Rupp is from Portland, Oregon and the first American to win the Chicago Marathon in 15 years. The women’s winner was Tirunesh Dibaba of Ethiopia (2:18:31). Marcel Hug of Switzerland defended his title in the men’s wheelchair division (1:29:23), and Tatyana McFadden of Maryland (USA) defended her wheelchair title (1:39:14). However, at the time of this writing, the official Chicago Marathon website is showing a tie between McFadden and Amanda McGrory of Savoy, Illinois (USA) with both finishing at 1:39:15. (For music fans, the marquis on the Chicago Theatre notes the Pixies are playing a sold out show tonight.)
I don’t know how I keep doing it year after year, but once again I cruised to an easy finish of the Chicago Marathon in front of my big screen TV while reclined on my couch.
