I was not ready for how hard this book hit me but I'm so glad I read it. @sloaneleong wrote such a complex, beautiful, nuanced book about how it is to live in a world in which you have little power over and how important, even life saving, female friendships and role models are. And she did it while not making any of her female characters lose their minds over a crush because there is more about being a young girl than romance! Someone give this woman an award. A Map to the Sun is out on the 4th of August and I'm already clamoring for a sequel because I want to be in the company of these characters for a little bit longer.
