Hi! I’ll definitely give it a shot but I’m probably not the best person to explain it as I’m not actually a part of the black community and I only discovered it today when I got on Tumblr. So anything I say on the matter is just what I’ve assumed from seeing the posts all over my dash. I definitely recommend reaching out to anyone you follow who might have more knowledge about it.
From what I can tell black tumblr is the black community on tumblr. The blackout is people of the black community (I’m assuming not limited to tumblr) posting their selfies. Unless I’m missing something (And I very well might be) It’s tumblr celebrating black beauty, confidence, and achievments. I think it probably has something to do with the way tumblr ignored black history month.
My dash (while unfortunately a little dead today) has been filled with selfies of some of the most beautiful people I’ve ever seen. All of them black. And it’s so exciting to see this level of confidence from these people.
