My Opinion On Every Single Bungou Stray Dogs Ship

Part One- Het Ships I

If you’ve followed me on Tumblr or Instagram for any amount of time you will have heard me trash talk certain ships (and shippers), and also have heard me say stuff like “I don’t really like any of the popular ships” “I don’t care about most ships from this fandom”. But ever want to know what I truly think of them? Probably not. In this series, I will be going through the list of ships on the Wiki and giving a detailed opinion on each and every one. Yes, even the crazy ass ones like Atsushi x Chazuke. I’ll be going in the order that is on the website.

Akipoe/ Akiko Yosano x Edgar Allen Poe: This is a ship? I haven’t heard about it in the nearly four years I’ve been around this fandom. Okay. It’s weird because it’s like someone took the two most popular people to ship Ranpo with and then took him out of the equation. It’s giving no purpose but to be random. Even in an ot3 it would be dumb, but let me hold off on that because that’s for a different ship opinion. They never interact in canon, but I think they’d be chill with each other since they have a mutual friend. But they wouldn’t be anything more than acquaintances. 1.25/10

Yosano does not approve of the ship.

Akuhigu/ Ryuunosuke Akutagawa x Ichiyo Higuchi: As much as one member of this ship ships it, I will never be able to ship it. It’s not healthy. #higuchideservesbetter Maybe in a canon divergent scenario… but even then I don’t think they’d work. I don’t believe in the “total opposites attract” theory. I hope Asagiri doesn’t decide to do that thing some writers do, where they seemingly get tired of their work and at the end, just go “this character likes this other character, even though it was always one-sided, let’s make it happen and they get together at the very end in the ‘epilogue’ that shows where they are a few years later”. 0/10

Akukyou/ Ryuunosuke Akutagawa x Kyouka Izumi: The only reason I know this ship exists is because when I first watched BSD I was scrolling through someone’s account and she mentioned a year back (2019) she shipped this years before (2016) and then questioned her past self’s sanity. The people who ship this are 14-year-old girls who like Akutagawa and are using Kyouka as a self insert. -3/10

How she’d react to this ship.

Akulucy/ Ryuunosuke Akutagawa x Lucy Maud Montgomery: I’m also surprised this is a thing. I saw some fanart of these two in a romantic context a few years ago because the Japanese VAs for the characters married each other, but I haven’t heard of this as a legitimate ship. But I have seen more ot3 art with Atsushi. Now that I think about it… these two aren’t half bad as a ship, as random as it may seem. I’m looking some stuff up of them, and I think they have enough similarities and differences that they could work. But Lucy does have a crush on Atsushi. It’s a good thing BSD ain’t a romance anime otherwise this could turn love-triangley real fast. 5/10 EDIT: I have been won over and am now an Akulucy shipper. I know they won’t be canon, so it’s not a serious ship for me. But it’s still fun to think about (if they meet under the correct circumstances only then it would work). New ranking 7/10

Amasawa/ Tatsuhiko Shibusawa x Agatha Christie: I’m also surprised this is a ship. But maybe it’s not that unusual since they’re both characters from Dead Apple. Still really random though. There’s not any basis for it. Also, wouldn’t this be called Agasawa? 1/10

Angomura/ Ango Sakaguchi x Mizuki Tsujimura: This is probably less random if one has read the Another Story light novel, at least that’s what I’m assuming. I have not read it and so I do not know anything about Tsujimura that was not in Dead Apple (so nothing). I don’t feel qualified enough to rank this because of that. -/10

Atsuhigu/ Atsushi Nakajima x Ichiyo Higuchi: This ship reads like it was created by someone who does not ship Akuhigu but thinks it’s going to be canon, but they don’t like Akutagawa while they do like Atsushi, so they went “I want Atsushi to steal his girl!” If that’s not the case, I don’t know how this was created. They met once and Higuchi insulted Atsushi’s looks 💀 Personality wise I think they’d get along. I don’t see it romantically though. 2.5/10

He’d be very shocked and flustered if he knew everyone you all shipped him with!

Atsugin/ Atsushi Nakajima x Gin Akutagawa: This ship makes me teehee evilly. “I ship Atsushi x Akutagawa!” “Atsushi and Akutagawa are going to end up together!” Alright well, be careful what you wish for 😈 If there’s some build up later on and it’s NOT out of the blue, I would love to see Asagiri go “aight, bet” and make them end up together at the very end of the series. I would bathe in the tears of SSKK shippers as I laugh. Despite all that, I don’t exactly ship this. It would be kinda funny in universe too. But I don’t think they’d work. We don’t know enough about Gin though, so I can’t say I like or dislike this until we get to see her a little more. 3/10

Me watching everyone else if there ends up being some build up to the ship and it becomes canon

Atsukyou/ Atsushi Nakajima x Kyouka Izumi: The way this ship gets completely overlooked makes me not fw y’all even more. The age gap is big AT THE MOMENT. Four years won’t be a lot in just a few years. If you want a ship to be endgame, you want them together for life, a four year age gap is nothing the older you get. Stop thinking of the present and look to the future! Plan ahead! Kyouka does not view Atsushi as a brother she has a crush on him her feelings are literally paralleled to Lucy’s! WAKE UP PEOPLE. Even if you don’t ship them when they’re a little older ADMIT THE TRUTH. THERE’S AN ENTIRE SPREAD DEDICATED TO THEM LOOKING AT EACH OTHER’S EYES WHEN THEY FIRST MEET. The anime adapted it so that everything was blacked out in the background and cherry blossoms were floating through the air! That’s totally what happens when future adoptive siblings meet 🙄Totally. Totally. AAAAHHHHHH. Anyways, they’ll be great together and this is really the only ship I have in this series and because I don’t want them with each other until they’re older it’s not even a current ship but a future ship. 10/10

Atsulucy/ Atsushi Nakajima x Lucy Maud Montgomery: They’re cute together but they wouldn’t work long term. I don’t know how to explain it. If someone else does feel free to add. I do like seeing some (some) of the content people make for this. But at the end of the day, it’s just not it. I don’t know what it is that, even seeing how they’re cute and could work short term, I still don’t have feelings for this ship. My heart is not in it. Maybe it’s because I don’t like the tsundere trope, even if it makes sense in Lucy’s case since she was mad at him for forgetting her after she saved him. 4.5/10

Atsuteru/ Atsushi Nakajima x Teruko Okura: Why is Atsushi getting all the ladies, what’s happening here? I didn’t know about half of these ships. Do people actually ship this? Probably not anymore after finding out she’s literally twelve 💀Hey, for the majority of your life a six year— oh that’s right, twelve years is her life’s majority. Oh well, better luck next time to anyone who shipped this. Although why you would based off what their limited interactions were 🤷🏽‍♀️ -1/10 EDIT: I saw that there was a translation error that made it seem like she was 12 years old but actually she was 12 when Fukuchi found her, which we don’t know the exact date because it said after the War, and the timeline is a little messy. But I do assume she’s an adult now, even if we don’t know how many years ago she was 12. (Asagiri please bring back the character info sheets 🙏🏽)

Atsuwells/ Atsushi Nakajima x Herbert George Wells: Her name is NOT Herbert George… is it? Herberta Georgia? Asagiri we need answers. Also I imagined her as being 28, but we don’t have a canon age. Maybe as a future ship this could work? If only we knew more of her character. I can’t say one way or the other about this, but I hope Wells shows up again. 2.5/10

movie/anime/manhwa whatever i can recommend recommendations

part 1: whisper of the heart (1995, ghibli)

This is my favourite Ghibli movie out of all movies that they made, the combination of fantasy, imagination, and reality was portrayed in a timely and organized matter.

The love story was great, even though it wasn't touched on so much, and the ending was just cut short, it was natural and it never goes in "damsel-in-distress" or some other tropes, it glides into its own trope, even though it was enemies to lovers, one-side enemies to lovers, Seiji didn't think of Shizuku as an enemy, but more of a crush, but Shizuku got the wrong perception and impression of his personality, that's why she portrays him as an evil jerk who'll ruin her life.

the slow-burn into that trope was very decent and easy-to-follow, not like others who....I'm not gonna mention any animes there.

the scenery and the aesthetic of the anime were pure japan's 90s years, with more of the green, cottagecore, and nature aesthetic (that's how I do my journal spread for with, always green).

And the art style, still screams ghibli, but if you take a closer observation, the studio does a great job at differentiating different characters with their clothing style, personality, and facial features and expressions, whilst using that signature 'style'.

I love this movie so much, the characters, the background, and the plot, and you'll never hate a single character in that story, you'll quite relate to them, even just a small amount. Like Seiji's ambition and imperfection, Shizuku's confusion in her future and her dissatisfaction in her work, Yuuko's infatuation and fragileness in feelings, or Sugimura's energy and accepting the feeling of rejection.

I started to write stories because of this movie, because of Shizuku, that I've discovered a talent I had yet to improve on. I very much related to Shizuku, the breakdown of hers reflected my breakdowns in dissatisfaction with my work, to put everything aside to finish one thing, and confusion in feelings for someone you fancy. It's hard to make something out of scratch, but be happy when you're done, you deserve such joy after fulfilling such a masterpiece.

The moral of this movie is to find your passion, find your future, and never give up, even how many struggles you have doing it, don't throw all of what you did away and start fresh, you'll regret it. Another thing I learned here is fate, and Seiji and Shizuku portrayed the phrase 'fated to be together' perfectly.

My only problem in this film is the ending, um...I need a graduation scene, please? And where's the sequel Sony? I wanna see how Matsuzaka Tori and Seino Nana portray the beloved characters on the big screen. I've been waiting for a year. (btw, maybe I'm late, but congrats on ur marriage, Matsuzaka-san with Toda Erika ^^)
