A show for a goddess [Amaterasu|Verasul]
Backrift. A dimension which got it's name from the only town it consisted of, with every streets and alleys littered with portals, riftgates called by the locals, leading to other dimensions. With the sheer amount of worlds to choose from, Backrift had been ultimately, and fittingly dubbed "Crossroad of dimensions". People setted in the special place, a market grew and with the incoming people from all different universes, the sortiment of goods offered there were astonishing indeed.
Now, not every guest of Backrift landed there on their own will. Riftgates having the rather bad ability to be hard to spot, it wasn't uncommon for people to simply stumble trough a portal and end up on the other side. And Backrift, having over one million gates so far, had atleast accidental visitors everyday. And Verasul, one of the people having settled down there, considering that the connections to other worlds would give him enough possibilites to earn his money by working as a mercenary, had decided to act like a guide to the lost people.
So, after having spend another day with simply loitering around and drinking all day considering that he couldn't get drunk, Verasul was on his way home. It was getting dark already, and while most of Backrift's inhabitants were nice and polite, some parts of town are prone to become very dangerous at night, even for a person like him. It didn't take him much time to spot a figure standing in the shadows of an ally. Truth be told, he couldn't see much considering the absence of any light at the moment, but he could tell from the person's body language that he... or she, was confused. Head turning around as if whoever was standing there didn't know where this place was. For now, the mercenary only watched the stranger. Partly because he didn't want to surprise the unknown person, and partly because the monsters inside of his head were... screaming. But not in anger, or because they can. They were scared. This had never happened before. Whoever was standing in that alley, the demons were able to feel it and were genuinly afraid of it.
