one girl came up to me afterwards and said ‘i didnt know you were bi - you’re not gonna start hitting on me know right?’ and i just stared into the abyss and teleported right outta there

Ah, thank you so much for taking the time to reply to this so thoughtfully! It sounds like it’s doing a lot of things well, and I’ll happily take bittersweet over devastating. When I get round to watching I’ll definitely let you know :) I think the only other LGBT film I’ve seen from a Latinx country was Contracorriente, which I enjoyed a lot (though sadly does fall foul of many tropes). I think in many ways that’s more a meditation on masculinity than sexuality per se

Oof, Contracorriente was a blow to the heart, wasn't it? I saw that one a long while ago and I really adored the magic realism of the film, but you're right in that it relies on a lot of really messy and fucked up tropes. If you're looking for some latinx queer media, I would check out Mosquita y Mari (wlw latinx!!) and maybe (?) Y Tu Mamá También, maybe? That one is perhaps a bit of a stretch but it has That Scene so, idk! Deffo let me know what you think :' )

hey :) 'My Best Friend' is on my list of movies to watch and i saw your 'sad trombone' comment. i don't mind spoilers in this case - is it a Bury Your Gays movie?

omg, my sad trombone comment. I really just say this sorta shit where people can see, huh? :’ ) thankfully, Mi Mejor Amigo doesn’t resort to using that trope. I’ll hide the spoiler beneath the cut, but let me at least say that it’s a sweet and gentle coming of age approach to gay identity. There’s a scene between Lorenzo and his mother that feels very real, feels very authentic to the ways in which most parents make missteps, albeit with love. Personally, I really love seeing LGBT content coming out of Latinx countries- I’m Uruguay, but seeing this story set in Argentina felt validating and exciting on a cultural level and I told my friend: this must be what representation feels like! There’s a lot to enjoy about the movie. It’s well-made, beautifully shot, and the main characters are endearing. There’s a surprising absence of toxic masculinity in some scenes and I really appreciated that. The movie even resists the common trope of having the parents (specifically the mother- this is a worrisome trope in a lot of gay content, at least in the past) be a source of homophobic upset and condemnation. The movie isn’t like that and I will say it was, at least until the last act, really expertly done.

However – 

In the end, Lorenzo and Caíto don’t end up together. They never kiss, they never out-rightly profess their mutual love, and they split ways at the end of the film over an argument that is just … one of those Just Talk to Each Other! conflicts that often exhaust me. It felt like a very lackluster ending to some very natural and heart-warming tension that I really wanted to see come into fruition on screen.

Still, it’s not a bad movie. There’s a good embrace and a strong reminder of what they share and feel for each other. They love each other for sure, but if you want something more- like I did- you might find the conclusion a little lacking. The frustrating thing about the film is that the small qualms I had with it could’ve been fixed so easily that it’s almost bewildering they didn’t do the thing. I won’t go into it for fear of other spoilers, but I would say ....a nice film! Good if you want something light and sweet between Two Good Boys and esp if you wanna support films about gay poc. Just know what to expect is all! : ) And tell me what you think if you do in fact watch it, pls!

I totally remember the days when I would print copies of fics (or fic updates) to read when I was going on a road trip or something because I wouldn’t have internet but I couldn’t possibly wait to read the story! You have no idea how widely I’m grinning reading your message; to know you’ve been with me through all these years and enjoying my stories <3 You really made my day so thank you very much for sticking with me and taking the time to message me! I’m not sure if you’re still reading my current stuff (no worries if you’re not; I know we don’t all follow the same fandoms), but hopefully for old time’s sake I can get that A/E WIP done and up for you to enjoy sometime in 2019!

spine / back of neck would be super cool - or maybe in the centre of your ribcage on the front of your body? that way it's sort of central on your body so the energy moves outwards. they look pretty good on the top of your arm / ankle too~

i'm leaning towards my ribs or my spine bc i want a mandala on my wrist i think?? (i def want a mandala i just don't know where) and my friend is designing some arrows for me that i'm p sure i want them on my inner left bicep?? i'd kill to have a real simple bird on my hand as well but office job any and all suggestions regarding where i should get these tattoos are appreciated
