I love it so much! Rayna is happy, Jas is starstruck, Harvey is observing, and Shane is sulking LOL. Below is an excerpt of that chapter:
“Aunt Marnie told me you have pretty rainbow hair like a unicorn!”
Rayna laughed. “I do!” She reached up to take the clip out and let her hair fall past her shoulders. She turned around and shook her head, showing the different colors cascading over her shoulders and down her back.
“WOW!!!” Jas said, her eyes wide open. She was visibly amazed that there were so many colors in her hair. “Is it real? Can I touch it?”
“Jas,” Shane interrupted. “That’s not a nice thing to ask someone you just met!”
“Oh, it’s ok. I don’t mind.” Rayna said as she squatted down, placing the basket next to her and gently placing her hair clip on top. “I get that question a lot from adults actually. It took me a long time to get it like this so I love it when someone appreciates it.” She got close enough to Jas so their eye level was the same and smiled. “Yes, it’s real. You can touch it if you like!”
Jas grinned as she leaned over and reached for a clump of Rayna’s hair. She rubbed the chunk of hair between her fingers for a few seconds, her eyes remained big as she looked at the colors. “It IS real!” She gushed. “Does it glow in the dark too?”
Rayna laughed again as she watched Jas’s reaction. “No, but there’s a special dye that changes color when you put it under a special light when you’re in the dark. I had that done years ago.”
Jas grabbed another chunk of hair, not taking her eyes off the rainbow lock. “Does it change colors when you go underwater?”
“Nope, it stays the same!” Rayna stood up and smiled. “But I have to be careful not to wet it all the time or the colors will fade faster.”
Jas turned to her uncle. “Can I have hair like hers?”
Shane started to protest but Rayna intervened. “Oh I don’t think this would be safe for your head right now,” she told them. “But there are some paints that go on hair you might be able to try if your uncle and aunt say it’s ok.” She looked over at the two men. “And of course with doctor’s approval.”
Harvey nodded in their direction. “Hair isn’t my expertise, but I’m sure it’s fine in moderation and you follow whatever directions come with the product.”
Jas looked back to Rayna. “Aunt Marnie said you also have a tree picture on your arm that looks like the tree in one of my books!”
Marnie what did you do, give Jas a script to memorize????
