Awesome work convo today
So this woman came in today and she is 92 years old and a total badass of a tiny bent over Jamaican feminist. She came in for a bit of a ‘treat yo self’ day at the spa where she could get a facial and her toes did up nice and she was the joy of the whole office. Her stories just don’t have the same punch without her amazing accent and attitude so you’ll have to imagine the best old woman Jamaican accent you can while you read this story:
“So I grow in Jamaica right? Is very different there than Seattle and was even more different back then! My family we had a small farm and I lived there with my brothers and my mother and my father. I was the youngest. My oldest brother, he grows up and says ‘father I want to live up in the city and become a doctor’ and my father and us were all very proud. Off he went to school. Two years pass and my next brother he tells our father and he says ‘father I want to go to America and become an Engineer so I can build airplanes!’ and my father he is very proud and sends him off. And some more time passes and now I am a woman and I tell my father ‘Father, I am now a woman and I would like to also be a doctor, I would like to go like brother did to see America’ and my father, he held my hands and he told me ‘no Trinity, you are a woman and as a woman you must stay here and take care of the horses’ and I was heartbroken and I asked my mother and she told me ‘this is just the way things are Trinity, when I was your age I also wanted to leave but it is very hard for a woman to do these things, I married your father instead’ My mother she wanted me to marry a local boy but he was rude and I still wanted to become a doctor. ‘Trinity you must take care of the horses!’ they said. ‘I’ll take care of the horses!’ I said. And so I rode our most beautiful horse into the city and I sold him. And I bought a ticket to go to America. and I became a doctor. and no matter what anyone says you cannot do you must try!”
She then advised all of us never to get married because we were all beautiful and no man would ever deserve us. She was given much free chocolate and we may have been so swept up in her amazing tales that we ‘accidentally’ went over a bit on time and let her get extra pampered.
