I've rewatched the Nancy Drew pilot approximately 5 (?) times till date and it always stuns me every. single. time.
So, let's start from the first time: It was 2020, I was going through a hard time with my father (coincidentally) during lockdown and decided to see this new thumbnail that popped up on my google feed. I plugged in, watched the pilot of Nancy Drew and all but cried in joy.
Why, you ask?
Because the values (I'm not kidding) imbibed into the making of this series took me by surprise- me, who dove in expecting the sappiest worst put together excuse of a mystery. Though I was a fan of the books (practically grew up with them) I was disappointed that the characters were all white and two-dimensional.
But the CW Nancy Drew pilot was anything but. It had realistic grief, bloodchilling mystery, all the breadcrumbs leading to the premise of the show... It was the best pilot I had and frankly have ever seen. Mixing a teen-friendly supernatural theme with the age-old theme of Nancy Drew-y mystery was a task never seen before, unique in its own right and deserving of the number of seasons it is getting.
Tell me your experience with the pilot/favorite episode!
