I have been wanting to watch the Boys show for a while now and I always postpone it. I get these unnatural fidgity feeling whenever I try to watch it. I think I never actually wanted to watch it but am trying to because everyone is watching it. I figured out why I feel like I don't like the show.
There's this another show called powers. I don't know if it's popular. As soon as I watched the first episode, I got hooked. It's brilliant. Superheroes exist. They are not all good. It's a disturbingly real take of what happens if superheroes exist. There's a vigilant group who kills any hero they can get their hands on. Protagonist is a sombre former supe, who is currently a detective. He's always serious disillusioned bla bla bla. It was an amazing show. I finished the season in like a night. There are two seasons in all and I never went past second one.
The thing is there is a superhero called retro girl. Spoilers, she and Christian(protagonist) used to be lovers and then broken up. At the end of season 1 they get together and for the first time in the entire season, Christian is happy and he smiles. The next day he casually jokes and smiles and surprises people when he arrives at work. Did I tell you he is a detective? He arrives at the murder scene. I told you about the vigilant group that kills superheroes right, they murdered a superhero and Christian comes to investigate that and it's retro girl. End of season 1.
The rage I felt was incomprehensible. I swore off season 2. I immediately stopped watching that show. I always pretend that show ended at season 1 with them getting back together.
I then heard of boys. Superheroes abusing their powers, check. Violence, check. Vigilant killing superhero check. Everything that's supposed to be the hook point of the Boys, I'd already seen it in Powers. Powers burned me. Every second of Boys reminds me of the pain and rage Powers caused me. Will I ever see Boys? I don't know. But I am not missing anything
