This is going to sound weird/ungrateful, but Im honestly not excited that the kids book I made for my church in now officially on Amazon. Maybe because it felt too easy. Anyone can self-published on Amazon as long as they meet basic quality control standards. Like no typos and all the text/ images within the margins. It says nothing about the quality of the story content. As a matter of fact, my husband showed me a video of a guy self-publishing a self-help book that made it to Amazon's niche best seller category just to show how easy it is.
Or maybe its because this book doesn't feel like Mine. I wrote it, I illustrated it, it has my original characters, but someone else told me to write it for the pastor's birthday. Even the characters I created were made for the church at the pastor's request. No one helped me develop it or anything, but it still doesn't feel like mine. I care about it and I think I try my best with each project I take on, but its not what Im passionate about.
The pastors wife and the outreach coordinator sent me a congratulations text when I told them the book was live. But Im reading their response like 🙄. "Don't congratulate me. You guys are the ones who have to sell this thing." This isn't mine, it's the church's.
I guess this just isn't the thing I want to be known for. It's simple and nice and kids. I want to be known for adventurous, young adult with complicated characters. Im trying to be obedient to where God is leading me, but I just hope this isn't a giant detour.
