You can change the wake word to the "Echo", "Amazon", or now much "PC", yet not to simply any name you need. However, you would now be able to give Alexa a British inflection — a throwing positive development — yet you don't get the opportunity to pick any voice for her to utilize.
Amazon Echo vs Echo dot
So, I had a echo dot show up yesterday and I wanted to throw together, a little comparison of how it works versus the original echo.
The sound is definitely a little bit tenure and certainly not as loud as the original echo, but it gets the job done. The microphones seemed to work just as well as the original echo picking things up across the room. We've got the same dial on top that controls the volume lights up and it's got a little bit of a sticky subsurface to it to help it stick onto the table, the original echo doesn't because it's a little bit heavier, it doesn't have any problem moving around.
So, I'm going to put both of these around mid-volume and we'll mute it. While doing this, you can hear how the speaker sound but this way it's not going to both of them are going to respond at the same time.
Alexa testing one two three receiving over and now we're going to mute out, the big one Alexa testing one two three so you notice it's a lot quieter, even if I crank this up. All the way Alexa testing one two three receiving over, so it does have a little bit of volume but it's just not quite as full and nice sounding is the big one.
It will play music just fine but I wouldn't recommend it versus using the big one, otherwise the dot seems to work pretty much the same as the original echo did. It's successfully controlling all of the home devices. I've got, we're muting out the big Alexa, Alexa turn off the dining room, “okay”. Alexa turn on dining room “okay”, so she seems to be just as responsive.
It's just a hell of a lot smaller than the original echo. They'll both respond pretty much at the same time, you'll just end up with a little bit of a weird echoing effect. so Since, they're both sending the on command there's not any issues. There but I could see being an issue as some other people have reported online having two echoes in the same room and trying to get them to play music, play trees, by twenty, one pilots, by twenty one pilots, so you'll notice that the two songs are actually a bit out of sync because they're playing out of those speakers.
Alexa stop on the power side, the original echo has a big old wall wart, with the cable connected directly into it.
The echo dot since it's not drawn as much juice, they've set it up with work to run off a USB.
So that's something to keep in mind, if it's easier for you to connect to USB wherever you are and that's kind of summary of these two devices here.

Common Amazon Alexa problems and how to fix them
An Alexis speaker such as the Amazon echo or echo dot can be a great addition to any living room, kitchen or even a bedroom, especially in a smart home. Typically after the initial setup there's not a lot of tweaking or maintenance that needs to be done but that doesn't mean that things can't go wrong here are four common problems with Alexa speakers and how to fix them.
If you're having trouble connecting a smart home device to your Alexa speaker, first make sure, it's a natively supported device.
The list of compatible devices is growing many of those devices are actually only compatible through a third-party skill.
To add a new device, open the Alexa app on your smart phone and go to smart home in the left menu under your devices and click discover devices.
If your device can't be discovered go to the skills section in the Left menu and search for the brand of your smart home device.
If there is a skill available and follow the on-screen instructions for connecting it through the skill.
If your device is not natively supported or there's no skill available you're not entirely out of luck. If this in that channel for Alexa which connects it to many other smart home devices that would not otherwise be compatible.
If you're having trouble with the Alexa speaker disconnecting from your network regularly. There are a few things you can try, which are as follows,
First, unplug the router the modem and the speaker then restore power after a few minutes. If that doesn't fix things.
Try relocating the Alexa speaker closer to the router and away from other devices if that doesn't work and you have an already you may want to consider switching your Alexa speaker from a 2.4 gigahertz network to 5 gigahertz to decrease interference.
You may also notice that the Alexa speaker doesn't hear you quite. This could be explained by things being added around the speaker and it being cluttered or the speaker physically moving closer to the wall.To fix this try following steps:
To remove obstructions from the speaker and keep it at least eight inches away from the wall.
Consider what's around the speaker if it's near a noisy appliance or air vent you may want to relocate it to another part of the room.
Finally, you can try voice training which is under settings in the Alexa app voice training.
You will have you read twenty five phrases allowed in a typical voice from a typical distance. So, Alexa can better understand you.
Finally do to increased popularity marketing and sometimes pure coincidence the television can activate your speaker if you're watching a TV show or movie that has any of the wakeboards included or anything. That is audibly similar while harmless it is a nuisance and there are three things you can do to help prevent it:-
Simply move the Alexus speaker further from the television. So it doesn't pick up on the audio from the sound system quite.
Mute switch so it stops listening to audio altogether.
Change the wake word that is used commonly in the show or movie that you're watching be sure.
