Amazon Echo vs Echo dot
So, I had a echo dot show up yesterday and I wanted to throw together, a little comparison of how it works versus the original echo.
The sound is definitely a little bit tenure and certainly not as loud as the original echo, but it gets the job done. The microphones seemed to work just as well as the original echo picking things up across the room. We've got the same dial on top that controls the volume lights up and it's got a little bit of a sticky subsurface to it to help it stick onto the table, the original echo doesn't because it's a little bit heavier, it doesn't have any problem moving around.
So, I'm going to put both of these around mid-volume and we'll mute it. While doing this, you can hear how the speaker sound but this way it's not going to both of them are going to respond at the same time.
Alexa testing one two three receiving over and now we're going to mute out, the big one Alexa testing one two three so you notice it's a lot quieter, even if I crank this up. All the way Alexa testing one two three receiving over, so it does have a little bit of volume but it's just not quite as full and nice sounding is the big one.
It will play music just fine but I wouldn't recommend it versus using the big one, otherwise the dot seems to work pretty much the same as the original echo did. It's successfully controlling all of the home devices. I've got, we're muting out the big Alexa, Alexa turn off the dining room, “okay”. Alexa turn on dining room “okay”, so she seems to be just as responsive.
It's just a hell of a lot smaller than the original echo. They'll both respond pretty much at the same time, you'll just end up with a little bit of a weird echoing effect. so Since, they're both sending the on command there's not any issues. There but I could see being an issue as some other people have reported online having two echoes in the same room and trying to get them to play music, play trees, by twenty, one pilots, by twenty one pilots, so you'll notice that the two songs are actually a bit out of sync because they're playing out of those speakers.
Alexa stop on the power side, the original echo has a big old wall wart, with the cable connected directly into it.
The echo dot since it's not drawn as much juice, they've set it up with work to run off a USB.
So that's something to keep in mind, if it's easier for you to connect to USB wherever you are and that's kind of summary of these two devices here.
