Hi, do you mind if I ask how much Amazon pays you for kindle vs paperbacks? I'm just curious, no worries if you don't want to answer.
For eBooks $2.99 and above, Amazon gives authors 70% of the cover price. So, for my eBooks, I get about $2 for Mango and $2.75 for Date Palm, Figs, and Olive. (Note: these are all prices before taxes; Amazon sends out a 1099 at the beginning of the following year.)
Amazon paperback pricing is a little more random because all the books are different lengths and you’re paying for actual pages to be printed. Mango I know they give me $2.38. Date Palm is $2.67. Figs is $2.84. Tales is $1.80. Olive is $2.51. In other words, with the exception of Tales from Perach, where the spread is 70 cents to a buck eighty, it doesn’t really make that much difference. I mean I get a smidge more for paperback Mango than eBook Mango but it’s not as dramatic as the difference for Tales and in some cases the eBooks are even a nickel or two more in my favor compared with the paperbacks.
Here’s a note, by the way: $2.98 and below, including my $1.99 books like Tales from Perach, Knit One Girl Two, and Cinnamon Blade, Amazon only gives us 35%. Which means that when someone buys K1G2 at Amazon I make 70 cents, but $1.53 on Gumroad. It’s a big difference and that’s why I try to encourage people to check out if their other favorite marginalized indie creators have Gumroads as well. I know Xan West, RoAnna Sylver, Ana Mardoll, and Claudie Arseneault all do. That being said, I am super grateful for my Amazon sales too and for all my readers no matter the platform.
