Did amazon change how they do royalties for paperbacks or have I been under a rock?
In what world should my royalties be 60% of the list price, only to then subtract the cost of print?
If my book costs 5 dollars to print, and I list my book for 10 dollars, that means that I get 60% of 10, which is 6 dollars, and then you subtract the cost of the book, 5 dollars, so my royalty for a purchased paperback of my book is 1 dollar.
I should get 60% of 5 dollars, which would be 3 dollars. The cost of printing should come out before percentages are thrown into the mix.
Because I get 1 dollar, and amazon, who is supposed to be getting the other 40% of my 60%, is getting 4 dollars.
Which is 400% more than I am getting for the book that I wrote.
What is going on??
