Amazon's surprise decision to shut down its AmazonSmile donation program has left thousands of its nonprofit beneficiaries disappointed and concerned about finding ways to replace the funding.

GALTx eNews: Amazon Turned Our Smile Upside Down

Amazon recently announced that on February 20th, it is ending the popular Amazon Smile program that helped raise money for nonprofits such as GALT. In response, many have asked how they can continue to support GALT. While there are no other programs quite like Amazon Smile, we have some suggestions: 

Using iGive.com for your on-line shopping works similar to Amazon Smile in that GALT receives a small percentage (they say on average 3%) of the value of your orders without increasing your costs. iGive now has 2,000 retail stores that participate including Walmart, Petco, Best Buy, Crate & Barrel, Walgreens, and Ticketmaster. Sign up and start with iGive the next time you’re shopping online!

GALT also participates in the rewards programs for Kroger and Tom Thumb. If you shop at these stores, you can turn your next trip into more than a chore by choosing GALT as your beneficiary! For Kroger's Community Rewards Program, GALT is account number 84687, and for Tom Thumb's Good Neighbor Program, we are account number 9805. Remember that for Kroger, you need to renew your selection each year to continue to benefit GALT. Both programs come with additional benefits and offers for the shopper.

When you’re active, be sure to turn on ResQWalk or Wooftrax Walk For A Dog. Both of these apps are marketed for when you’re walking a dog, but they work while you’re running, cycling, walking without a dog, shopping, or doing chores around your house. Turn them on while you are shopping at Kroger and Tom Thumb to maximize the benefit of your trip!

And this might be a blast from the past but it still works - when you’re searching the internet, use goodsearch.com as your search engine! Once you select GALT as your beneficiary by clicking the link in the blue bar at the top of the page, Goodsearch contributes a small amount to us for each search using its search engine. 

If you’re buying a pet door from Hale Pet Doors online and have adopted from GALT, let them know during the checkout process and they will donate 10% of the purchase price to GALT!
