Soy Luna's chracters lest favorite school subjects
Considering I did their favorite why not talk about the ones the hate or struggle the most with. Once more I am not claiming they took these classes just based on the ones I took in High school.
Luna: Chemistry and maybe French as she is just learning about it. English could also be a weak point as we don't know how good her education was back in Cancun.
Ambar: dislikes philosophy (founds it boring)
Matteo: Languages, world history & government (doesn't struggle with them but reminds hims of his dad's job which he hates, so he slacks of in these clases)
Gaston: dislikes french as he finds the language hard to speak.
Nina: P.E. We all know physical activity isn't her strong suit.
Jim: Literature (its clear the teacher didn't like her or Yam) and maybe physics?
Yam: Literature x2, also struggles with chemistry.
Ramiro: Physics (he was really happy when he befriended Matteo and Gaston because they would help him out with school work and homework. Here in between us he also cheated of them once or twice in exams but its a secret 🤫).
Delfi: Dislike P.E as she gets sweaty but generally enjoys exercising and hates World history as he finds it boring.
Jazmin: Also P.E because she doens't want to be sweaty and risk breaking a nail. Also anything to do with math.
Today I learned not everyone has an internal monologue isn't that crazy?
I love talking to myself when I am bored, to guide myself through different situations, or just because. I think its crazy that some people don't have it. So in this post I'll say wether I think if the Soy Luna characters have or don't Internal mologogue (the voice inside their heads).
Luna: I am in limbo with her. I feel like she can either have a constant going monologue going on in her head which is why she tends to be sort of messy/disorganized/or why sometimes she starts talking about something and ends up talking about something completely different. OR the lack of an internal monologue is the cause all of that. After all people w/o monologues process things different (with images, sensations, etc.) and maybe Luna hasn't found the way she processes things yet.
Ambar: We have seen Ambar talk infront of that mirror countless times, she has a monologue for sure.
Simon: I think Simon has one but isn't super loud or there all the time, yk? Like every once in a while he will talk to himself and when he is making a list for something (like for the grocery store) or when he is writing a song the lyrics will be on his mind but he can "mute" the voice when he needs it or not.
Matteo: I think he needs to have one. He grew up travelling from a country to another and in his own words had to learn different languages to fit in. As most of us know learning any language can be really though, so I think he develop a copying mechanism to talk to himself when he had troubles connecting with others due to the language barrier. That could explain why he sucks so much at talking with others about his feelings and what he is going through. He already had those conversations in his mind and he didn't consider it was worth the energy (the conversations are 100% unaccurate of how they be irl).
Gaston: Gaston also confuses me bcz he is so self aware and is so logical that I think that he must have an internal dialogue in which he thinks things though and can detect bs a mille away. But at the same time if he didn't have one it would explain why he is so rational, as he rarely overthinks situations and tends to ground both Nina and Matteo when they are becoming paraoind. His give me vibes that his thought process are: Since we have A that means we sould then expect B as a result, and I can see both a person with and without an internal monologue to go through that.
Nina: YUP and it its loud and very critical. I don't see any universe in which Nina doesn't have some sort of anxiety/ social anxiety. I know my poor girl has constant arguments in her head, she heavily critizes herself and she is her biggest critic.
Jim: For sure, considering she day dreamed in S1 in the first chapters she definetely uses her internal dialogue to create future scenarios (in which Yam is obvious with her).
Yam: She has one but it is more attached to reality. Yam's monologue is critical, when it needs to be and so on when it needs to be hopeful. I think mentally Yam is one of the most stable characters out there and her internal monologue would reflect that. I also think it would help her and Jim's relationship (whether its platonical or romantical) that one of them is much more dreamier while the other is more realistic.
Ramiro: I think it would be funny if he didn't have one which is why he pretty much says sanything that crosses his mind and why he praises himself so much. His dialogue isn't internal like most people but external so every smug comment is just the way he processes stuff.
Nico: Yeah, he can lean on the more pesimistic side of an internal dialogue but its not nearly as toxic as Nina's.
Pedro: For sure. Imo he is the healthies man (relationship wise) in the series and that can only be achieve by being self aware and having discussions with yourself. Like he evaluates himself and despite sometimes being hypercritical he looks for ways to improve. H
Delfi: I think hers is similar to Yam and Simon's it is calm when it needs to be and she can shut it off when she wants to. Its not there all the time, but everyonce in a while she will have conversations in her head about things that are happening in her mind.
Jazmin: Not in the slightest. I love how blunt Jazmin can be, but I think many of her coments happen because she didn't hear the phrase in her mind and realized how it would sound.
Did you all know that if you ask a group of people to think about an apple in their minds, people will see it in different ways?
Some people will see the apple as a real life, super realistic apple and (according to one of my friends) they can even rotate the apple in their mind. Others see a "drawing of the apple that still looks 3D" but isn't as realistic. Some people can only have the "cartoon" version of the apple in their minds, and others can only see the outline of the apple but not the apple itself or see the colors very blurry. Finally there is a small group of people who can't visualize anything at all, like they know how the apple is supposed to look like but they don't see it in their minds. The image kind of summarize it better than I can but I just wanted to make sure we are all in the same page.
This topic isn't related only to how we remember things but also our imagination and creativity. I am bored AF so I will say which character I think is in each level and give little to no explanation as to why.
Luna: 1. Her dreams. That girl has such vivid dreams I know her imagination is wild and apparently she can remember things from her past super clearly so this one was easy.
Ambar: Either a 1-2. Ambar came up with the wildest plans in seasons 1 and 2, that takes another level of creativity. And another level of planning you can only achieve when you see things crystal clear in your mind.
Simon: Maybe a level 3. He can see it but its not super clear.
Gaston: 2. I don't know why I just feel it.
Nina: 2. I feel like Nina is so strict with everything she might end up limiting her creativity and how she sees things. She might be so perfectionist in getting everything right that details go past her.
Matteo: 5. That man can't see nothing. (Funny considering how much music he makes)
Ramiro: 4. He says he can clearly imagine everything, he is a liar.
Jim: 1. We've seen Jim day dream in the show that girl's imagination is also wild.
Yam: 3. She is creative, but she seems more down to earth contrary to Jim, so they balance each other out.
Pedro: I honestly don't know maybe a 3 or a 2.
Nico: 4. He sang to Ada (or was it Eva?) the same song he made for Jim that creativity is loooooooow. But I think he sees more than Matteo for sure.
Jazmin: Lowkey I think she is between a 3-4 which is crazy considering how much she like fashion and makeup. Maybe that's why she asks others what they think will look best, because she can't see it in her mind. Either way she always slays with her looks.
Delfi: A 2. She sees stuff but its not full HD 4K or anything.
I don't know if y'all remember how in the earlier episodes after Nina finds out Ambar tightened the wheel on Luna's skates, Ambar confronts Nina at school. Later on Nina even becomes part of the Fab&Chic (very briefly), but fortunately she knew how to get out of there quickly and nothing bigger happened. I could help but thinking what might had happen had Nina stayed any longer and I think it could result in a little confrontation Candy Store style (from Heathers), so I drew it :)
(I don't really like how ambar or Jazmin's hair look but I really don't know how to fix it, so it will unfortunately have to stay like that.)
Without the text and background candy :)
For those who don't know what scene it got inspired from (please ignore the text, I got the images from a tik tok)
I don't know if it is just me but I feel like we should had have many more conversations about what happened in Cancun with the pool. It really just feels like the writers were like "Hmmm we need a dramatic moment to start our series. I KNOW WHAT TO DO LETS MAKE THE ANTAGONIST(? can ambar be called that?) ALMOST DROWN THE PROTAGONIST !" and then they brushed it aside.
For starters, a conversation between Ambar and Matteo, because both of them are wayyyyy to chill with what just happened. Specially considering after Matteo pulls Luna out of the pool he give Ambar a couple of weird looks, almost as if he looks unsure if he should believe his girlfriend or his eyes. The conversation could easily go after Sharon scolds Ambar but before they have the video call interview for the Fab & Chic. That way they could set up some of the tension that is present between Ambar and Matteo and why he seems so uninterested in participating. OR the scene goes the same way it does in canon and after Ambar hangs up, she directly question what is up with Matteo who could ask her wtf happen earlier. Not much needs to happen right now since its just E1 but overall they could be building why their relationship is doomed to eventually end.
Also the fact that they never bring it again between them again is kind of weird. Specially since they are both hot heads and they seem like the type to bring each others past actions while arguing. By this I mean that in E4 (? or maybe its 5), when Matteo confronts Ambar about potentially sabotaging Luna's skates she says "Do you really think I am capable of doing something like that?" In canon Matteo says "I think you are capable of doing whatever you set your mind on", but if they actually talked about what they HAVE DONE he could have said "Considering what happened in Cancun I am starting to see a concerning pattern." He wouldn't even have to say what happened exactly since they both know what they are talking about, and he could display it as concern (wether it is for Luna or Ambar's sanity it up to your interpretation), but the result would be the same as canon. Ambar would end up being mad. This would be the first crack in their relationship.
Also beside Simon (who Luna told), Luna, Ambar and Matteo do any of the other characters know what actually happened? I know Delfi and Jazmin saw everything because they were on a video call when Luna arrived with her delivery, but did the camera capture their whole bodies. If not Ambar could just tell them Luna feel on her own and wanted to get her in trouble. And to be honest could you really blame them if they believed her? She is their friend at the end of the day and specially since Luna IS very clumsy all though out S1. Luna is always a mess so Ambar's words make sense. They trully have no reason not to believe her, this could create an interesting dinamic in S2 when they start pulling away from Ambar. While Ambar is starting to change, the mistakes she did in the past are still coming back to bite her in the ass. Either Delfi or Jazmin (maybe even both) could eventually ask Luna what really happened, once they hear Luna's version their relationship would get even worse and Ambar's reputation would sink deeper, making her spiral further down.
Another conversation I think could be interesting is between Gaston and Matteo. We all know Gaston LOVES to call out bullshit, specially if it comes from Matteo. We also know Matteo's closest confident is Gaston, he tells that man EVERYTHING. Or almost everything….
In E3 when they reunite after their vacations (which is one of my favorite scenes btw, their friendship is so cute) after updating each other of their vaction Gaston says something along the lines of at least you had fun. To which Matteo responds "Yeah my vacations were pretty fun but I had to become a life guard" (more or less), but when Gaston presses the issues Matteo doesn't tell him an single word. Why? He knows that it wasn't an accident, but he is trying to act like if he doesn't acknowledge it, it will go away. He knows how bad it will sound saying it out loud and there is no way to spin it or to make Gaston not call out Ambar's actions. Whether Matteo loved Ambar or not, I do think he at least cared about her, specially since he never brought it up once. But I do wonder what Gaston's reaction would have been. Would he not have cared, like with the sabotage of Luna's skates in E4? Or would be be mad since this is more serious? Would he be concerned about Ambar? Would he be scared for Matteo since she is slowly scalating and who know what she can do next? Would he advise him to dump her? THERE ARE SO MANY POSSIBILITIES.
I would have also enjoyed seeing Luna talk with Nina about this. I don't really know when that could happen but its interesting to think what would bring up the topic as Luna doesn't really speak ill of Ambar in S1 (even when she could have). I don't think it would change much of the plot, but not everything has to be for the plot tbh.
Maybe some day I'll sit down and write about this, but for know I just needed to share my ideas as the "What ifs" were driving me crazy.
Are there any other conversations do you think I should have included or that I missed?
I decided to rewatch this silly masterpiece called Soy Luna and it took me five minutes to get a lightbulmb moment!
In ep1&s1 while Miguele directs Sharon(mostly) along the house, she notes that it smells pleasantly in the mansion. Then Monica specifies it's jasmine essential oil that Sharon showed interest in, which made me think about Ambar: how many of her perfumes does she actually use and how does it smell?
Only delicate aroma not to overstimulate Sharon and not to leave traces?
Ambar is a fashion diva and I hugely doubt she could sacrifice her image and the concept of character to make Sharon satisfied. Sth doesn't ring the bell. HELP!
