Headcanon/Prompt:

Emrys is the name the druids give Merlin, but Merlin isn’t a druid.

If Merlin had been able to learn more of his Dragonlord heritage, he would have heard of their prophecies of magic-made-man and his king, and those prophecies would have given him a name in the dragonic tongue.

Likewise, among many other cultures and races, they have stories of the coming of Merlin and Arthur, each variation naming them in their own language based on their purpose or nature.

Emrys is the only name we hear because it’s the druids and offshoots of them Merlin primarily meets in his years at Camelot.
