Look around, the cheering at loss of life, Americans galvanizing around the western narrative with no critical thought whatsoever. The embarrassing display of bloodlust. It is easy for Americans to be pro war because they will never feel the the full effect on their soil. To many, its like rooting for a side like rooting for a sports team. And our government counts on its citizens incompetence in foreign policy to continue it omnicidal reign. Watch. Next you'll have americans exclaim how the war in the ukraine is bringing Americans together. A war? Bringing us together? Where have we heard this before? History is repeating itself. America has never had to change its imperialist strategy because its citizens are too eager to be guillable. Collectively we are on the wrong side of history and it is truly disheartening. The amount of books, historical references, on the ground investigations, a plethora of confirmed well researched information at our finger tips.....how are we all failing an open book test? This will get alot worse. Unfortunately, the devastation is already insurmountable.
Authors note: Hey guys! So writing is something I’ve enjoyed doing for a while but this is my first time posting so I hope you all enjoy reading!
Story Summary: You are an Avenger and you are fighting Ultron in the battle of Sokovia. You and Steve have grown a special bond over the years and have become extremely close. Your love for each other is so powerful and with that comes danger.
“Come on! Let’s go!” Steve yelled as he ushered people onto the cargo ships sent by Nick Fury. “Watch your step!” He called as he helped a young girl onto the platform.
He looked up to see Y/N doing the same a couple of hundred metres away with another ship. He was busy with the job at hand but he always kept an eye on you no matter what.
As you were helping a man onto the ship you heard a scream coming from across the street, you look up to see a woman leaning over a man in distress tugging at his leg. Without hesitation you run towards them, as you near closer you notice his leg has been jammed under a massive concrete pillar. As you reach them you gasp at the sight and immediately reach for the concrete.
“Help me lift it!” You yell to the woman.
She jumps up and stands next to you, reaching under to get a good grip. You both try desperately to lift it but even together you couldn’t seem to make it budge. The man shrieks in pain and the woman leans down and grabs his hand sobbing and hugging him. You try to lift it one more time then frustratingly give up, you whip your head around to see Steve carrying a boy onto a ship.
“Steve!” You scream, fear evident in your voice. The sweat beads down your head as you run your hand through your hair holding it off your face. He places the boy down safely then turns to find you, once his eyes lock with yours he sees the desperation in your eyes and starts running towards you.
Suddenly you hear a loud crumble above you and the sound of peoples screams from the ships fill your ears as they watch you. You look up to see the building where the pillar had fell from begin to shake and you know it’s about to fall. Your mind becomes a blur as you turn to the woman and man. You know you can’t save him, the building is falling and he is trapped. A million thoughts are racing through your mind, and without realising, a tear falls down your cheek. Do you stay here with them and let the building crush you or do you drag the woman away from the man she loved and leave him to be lost amongst the rubble forever.
Without thinking you lean down and grab her around her stomach, dragging her to her feet. “No! What are you doing?” She yelled completely shocked. “No let go of me!” She screamed.
The sound of her voice was spine tingling and you knew you would never forget it. You managed to drag her about five metres away while she kicked and screamed. You could hear the building cracking and beginning to fall but you didn’t look back, your face was now drenched with tears. Suddenly the lady stomped her foot down onto yours, breaking through your arms and pushed you to the ground.
You looked up to see her running towards the building and the man she loved so much she would sacrifice her life for. “No!” You cried. As you got to your feet, ready to run back for her the building finally loses its last holding foundation and began crashing to the ground. You close your eyes and wait for it to swallow you up.
The pain that felt like a bus hitting you carried throughout the side of your body and you let out a painful cry. The thick dust filled your lungs and you coughed as you chocked in air. You lay on the ground for a second waiting for it to all stop but instead you feel the familiar feeling of warmth wrapped around your body. You keep your eyes closed as you absorb all the pain your body has just endured.
“Y/N” Steve whispers. “Y/N look at me. Please.” You slowly let your eyelids fall open and the sight of Steves beautiful blue eyes looking down at you makes you start crying hysterically.
You turn your head to the pile of dust and rubble, you were only metres from where you just stood. “No.” You whispered as you cried. You closed your eyes and felt his hand wipe over your cheek. “No.” You cried again.
Steve lifted you in his arms and carried you towards a ship, you opened your eyes and through your tears you stared over his shoulder at where the lady and man had just been lost. Steve slowly placed you down on a chair and turned to help the last of the people onto the ship. You closed your eyes and everything went black.

You began to open your eyes again and you squint them back shut at the soreness and bright light. The sound of a dull beeping noise was the only thing you could hear. You sit up rubbing your eyes and before you get the chance to open them properly there is a warm hand on your leg then one on your back. You blink a few times and look up to see a concerned Steve gazing down at you.
“Hey there,” He whispers. “Take it easy.” He watches as you take in your surroundings. “Your’e in the hospital.” His voice was quiet and compassionate.
You looked at him then down at the bed. You sat there for a minute in silence as you gathered your thoughts. A tear welled in your eye as you remembered what had happened. Without looking at him you spoke coldly, “You should have left me.” The tear fell as you sat still, never meeting his gaze.
You hear him quietly sigh and you know he is no longer looking at you, he is starting down at the bed as well and you know he is feeling the same disappointment you are.
“You are suppose to save the people!” You yell, finally bringing your eyes to look at him. He keeps looking down, he closes his eyes and hangs his head. “You let them die to save me and that is not the job! You could have lifted that pillar Steve!” You cried. “Why did you save me?” You felt defeated.
You knew he made the wrong choice but at the same time part of you knows if the situation was reversed you couldn’t let him die either.
“We exist to protect the people.” You choked.
“I know.” Steve whispered back. “I know.” He looked up at you and you swore you could see a tear welling in his eye. “I should have saved them.” He hung his head again and you sat there in silence for another minute. “I was going to save her but I just ran towards you. I saw the building falling and I couldn’t run anywhere else but towards you.”
You furrowed and reached your hand out to touch his cheek. You loved him so much it hurt and he loved you even more.
“We can’t do this anymore Steve.” You breathed. He snapped is head up and locked eyes with you knitting his brows. “Our love for each other shouldn’t get in the way of our work.” You stumbled through your words.
A tear fell from his eyes and he nodded his head. “I know.” He picked up your hand and kissed it. “It’s okay.” He stared at you for a few seconds. “I feel constantly distracted with making sure you're safe so I knew this time would have to come.”
He leaned down closing his eyes and gently pressed his forehead to yours. He held it there and just before he could pull away you reached up around his neck and pulled his lips to yours. They press together so fiercely and smoothly, you feel like you could just melt. The kiss lasted longer than it should’ve and by the time he gently pulls away you’re out of breath and the palms of your hands are slightly moist with sweat. You feel hot and slightly flusters but you hide it well. He kisses you on the forehead one last time then leaves the room.

As an older millennial, it took me quite a long time to develop an interest in politics. I’m no expert, and I certainly don’t keep up with nearly as much as I probably should, but I try to stay on top of major developments so I’m at least aware of the broad stroke things that are going on at any given point in time. My interests in the field tend toward a more philosophical point of view, not…
