According to a study published in Science Journal, “gendered notions of brilliance are acquired early” and have a significant impact on how girls perceive their own intelligence. 😕 Isabel Sanchez Vegara was shopping for her nieces and realized that the lack of inspiring books for girls was part of this problem. She decided to create the series Little People, Big Dreams to talk about smart and capable women who pursued their childhood dreams and became history's highest achievers. 🙌 Naturally, she wrote one about Amelia Earhart, the "Queen of the Air”. Amelia was the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic back in 1932. She once wrote to her husband: "Please know I am quite aware of the hazards. I want to do it because I want to do it. Women must try to do things as men have tried. When they fail, their failure must be but a challenge to others.” 💪 Lesser known is Amalia's flair for fashion: she was one of the 1st celebrities to have her own fashion line, making clothes for "active living". She launched 25 outfits featuring materials like parachute silk and textile from airplane wings, with a successful debut in Macy's and at 30 department stores all over the US. Today is National Amelia Earhart, and we are celebrating her life, career, courage and strength.
