Thank you for standing up for Yuuri because sometimes I feel like people do not realise how AMAZING he is! He hit rock bottom, but then he comes back for stronger, overcomes his weakness and finally makes his mark. Not a skating prodigy but I'm sure everyone's moved his love (and life) and passion.
Just saying I’m not trying to start a war with “prodigy” it’s just Yuuri was not as accomplished as Victor and Yurio when he was young. Again thank you for making a post solely about how amazing Yuuri is
He’s not a skating prodigy, but he’s just as good and just as talented as the prodigies in the series (and better than some of them), and that’s one of the things that is great about him.

Honestly? One thing that bugs me about propping up Yurio’s talent while demeaning Yuuri is this; the teenage prodigy protagonist is so common in anime. But Yuuri is something different. There’s so few protagonists like him, and it strikes me as so weird that people actually buy into the prodigy = better thing.
There’s all these people out there thinking Yuuri is some milquetoast protagonist, that the gifted teen should be the lead (again! because it is so common), and it’s so frustrating. Yuuri is mentally ill, he’s gay, he’s not a prodigy (but STILL proves himself incredible), and he’s a late bloomer who struggled in his given sport for YEARS despite his skill. I want him to win everything in the YOIverse because it means something, from a storytelling POV. It means so much more than yet another story where the gifted kid is the best there is.
Even speaking from the POV of the YOI creators, they’ve talked a lot about the results of the GPF. They talked about how Yurio felt (unsatisfied). They’ve talked a lot about why Yuuri didn’t win. But they’ve never spoken about why Yurio won. And it’s because… it doesn’t mean much from a storytelling POV.
He won because Yuuri couldn’t. Why Yurio? Because not Yuuri. It didn’t mean much else. It’s not because Yurio ‘worked his ass off’ or because he ‘was the best’. It’s because they felt, according to their story (though I disagree), that Yuuri couldn’t win the GPF.
tl;dr basically Yurio’s win is a plot device so acting like it’s this cap to Yurio’s character growth or the birth of the new Victor Nikiforov or whatever is… not what’s happening. It didn’t even really matter who won, but of course, the creators wanted to choose the other lead so it wasn’t someone we barely knew. It’s literally so Yuuri Katsuki doesn’t retire so he can go on and become the champion he’s meant to be.
This is completely unrelated to Victor's sexuality but I think Victor isn't necessarily a Casanova guy. Surely he attracts people regardless of gender but he's shown to be flirtatious only towards Yuuri. Perhaps the whole playboy image thing is media trying to humanise him cuz he's basically god lol He's good at what he does. He's handsome. He's polite, and hell he knows how to please fans. Though I don't think he's inexperienced either, maybe one or two lovers in the past.
i 100% agree with you! i’m not sure if that image comes from the media or if it’s a carefully crafted by his publicity team or even himself, but it’s def just an image! bc yeah he does the whole winking thing etc, but it’s all directed at the cameras and media and not how he acts in private at all, as we’ve seen

Honestly though. There really isn’t much more they can do with Yurio at this point. He got everything he wanted except for the FS world record (and if they take that away from Yuuri too I’m going to set MAPPA on fire). I mean he certainly has room to growth as far as his character goes. You know, learn humility, compassion, respect, sportsmanship, all the things he could have learned if they had followed an Agape arc. But even going forward with that (and I doubt they will), it will be too little too late because yeah, Yurio basically has everything he wanted at this point.
God I know. Just...just let Yuuri win gold and marry Victor. Give him all the things he deserves and been robbed from.
Eh, it’s not super clear.
Yurio is Kubo’s creation and the first character to be named and designed. But before Kubo came along for the project, Sayo had already come up with the characters of Yuuri and Victor. Both Sayo and Kubo have said that Sayo always intended Yuri on Ice to be about the bond between a Japanese skater and a foreign coach, so Yurio could never have been the main character. Yes, Kubo saying that Yurio wouldn’t work as a main character does imply he was considering to be one, but everything we hear about the early project contradicts this. So unless they had considered taking it in a different direction at some point, Yuuri is and always has been the protagonist. And a big reason YoI got the attention and praise it received, even early on (especially early on), is the fact that Yuuri is the protagonist. So maybe MAPPA should, you know, go back to focusing on him and actually start treating him as such >>

At first I thought the idea of podium family was cute but then I looked back what Yurio said I was like uhm no thank you and they already have Makkachin! Besides they are just in their 20s for heaven’s sake, let them have fun on their own without taking care of an angry teenager. I used to as well but now that I think about it, Yurio has been shit to Victuuri since like episode 1 (Minus the ONE moment he was nice yo Yuuri in episode 9). And the Yurio stans are making me like that idea less with how protective they are of Yurio lol Like they want Victuuri to treat him nicely because hes a kid but dislike the idea of them being their Russian Fairy’s parents. And yet demand people to see him as an adult whenever they want to sexualise him. ugh

Aaa combining orders is possible, if you want me to hold an order for you to be sent at a later date together with something else, but unfortunately you will still be paying for the 2 separate shipping fees for those 2 orders. That’s actually why I decided to come up with the 10% off for the stationary stuff this weekend so as to offset a bit of the cost, especially for the people who were planning to get the charms that’ll come later in the month. It’ll be a logistic nightmare for me if many people wanted to combine items but ask me to waive off shipping for one of the orders (which is gonna be difficult, a hassle to calculate, with many orders and having to refund via paypal - it drove me nuts the last round lolol). There is no way V isn't a hopeless romantic! I have a hc about fairytales too. Influenced by the stories, V is a firm believer in "happily ever after", that one day he'd find someone who understands the joy figure skating has brought him. Yuuri, who is also a fairytale lover (he's ballet dancer so I guess he's familiar with the stories too?), would pour all his emotions into performances cuz he's too shy to say it out loud before V. There're quite a lot fairytale ref in yoi esp sleeping beauty
yes yes yes this!!! ♥♥♥ i wish there was more meta about all the fairytale references in yoi, esp since we know vitya has skated to the lilac fairy and he references to fairytales several times during the series, esp when he’s talking about yuuri? the boy is absolutely a hopeless romantic and i love it so much ♥
