Watching live on TV the storming of the defenseless Capitol felt like watching the burning of the Towers on 9/11–when I watched the Old World I had left family & homeland to escape from attack the New World, whose promise of freedom & equality I have loved since childhood. On 9/11 I saw how vulnerable the #AmericanExperiment is & I decided to take the oath of citizenship, after having been here on my own since I was 15. Today I saw again that the core of #America is vulnerable, misunderstood, & taken for granted. The only continuous constitutional democracy, America has made possible the Democracies in Europe, India, Canada, & the rest of the world that now seem stable. In the existential struggle between Identity & Essence, America is post-tribal, post-racial, post-patriarchal. Our human flaws are echoed in America’s flaws when it chooses to act in the ways of the Old. Our human best qualities are echoed in America’s foundation & promise. I urge you to put aside your political & financial considerations & defend her. I do not practice identity politics because it’s an echo of the Old World of Differences & Cults.
