Americans for Prosperity (AFP) is a front group for for the Koch brothers, basically their boots on the ground to protest the government. Don't get me wrong, I'm not pro-government, I'm just anti-evil. There are plenty of horrible things to say about the government, don't get me started on JFK, 9/11, Oklahoma bombing, 2008 economic crisis, Obamacare, etc. I am against any and all persons and agencies that use its wealth and power to its advantage. This can take many forms, sometimes it's transparent, like the Bush family; but most of the time you have to look a little deeper, like AFP.
AFP has chapters in 34 states, their agenda is the elimination of regulation which means less government. But if I'm not pro-government, shouldn't I be standing on their side of the fence? No. Look deeper, people.
Take a look at Wake County, North Carolina. Koch Brothers used their front group AFP to reverse the educational system by carrying out one of their privatization and libertarian agenda - resegregration. AFP used their money and adopted pawns to insert in the School Board. Results?
Immediately after the "new" school board election, black students were separated from white students in Wake County. The school board called it, "forced bussing" or "neighborhood schools." What the really means is that black kids were forced to take a bus to go to their all black school, and likewise for the white kids.
Fortunately, there was a tremendous resistance against segregation. Protests led to the involvement of the local NAACP and the filing of a civil rights complaint. Two years later, a new school board was re-elected and segregation policies were abolished. The conservative takeover was over and the community publicly rejected the brand of politics the Koch brothers stand for.
