(Sorry folks, Rose is very much traced from the screenshot here, but amethyst isn't!)
Trying to draw out the scene from the finale wasn't exactly planned, ergo the tracing to fasten the pace as well as the the impatient me to share it with you all.
Also, I had to be creative with the older version of the temple design, but I think it was done alright!
Another option -> heres a link to part 2 posted in AO3!
Since the kindergarten was in constant darkness, Amethyst has never seen anything so… bright before.
The brightest shade of light she’s ever experienced other than the warppad was that one open area where the dark, gloomy clouds would be drifted away from that are. It was the only ray of sunshine she has ever experienced. She had touched the little, but weak sunray, and felt warmth all around her hand. It was so different than the usual cold air of the kindergarten, but in a good way.
But now, she’s travelling in a warp pad with the beautiful giant lady beside her. The light of the warp pad may be as bright as the little ray of sunshine, but it didn’t give out the warmth she experienced. As for the travelling, she never though she would be leaving the place she called home, what’s worse, there was this small little cloud of regret hanging around her, telling her leaving was a very bad idea.
But the pink lady looked so sure, so kind and confident of what she’s doing, taking this new gem away from her home? That’s not how she thinks, that’s honestly how amethyst felt, being taken away from her own home, and be willing to do so just because this lady said so!
The pink lady announced to her one audience, “We’re almost there! Oh you’re gonna love it!”
Amethyst involuntarily felt a surge of excitement, but she wasn’t actually excited, she should be more nervous than the feeling she’s having now…
When they finally landed in the new location, it was apparently early morning as the sun was rising into the sky. They appeared to be in a cave, surrounded by water, brief stairs up and down, neatly placed tiles and a huge door behind her.
Rose held out her hand to the new gem, “Come, let me show you around first.” And led Amethyst down the several stairs, slowly and carefully making their way out of the cave and into the white grains and sand. The texture felt weird to amethyst as she was used to the solid hard dirt and rocks scattered around. But here, there was not a lot of rocks, just a bunch of white, tiny looking pebbles and water splashing onto the shore.
It was the first time Amethyst left the kindergarten, and she’s already feeling rather uneasy with all these… new experiences.
The duo circled around the pre-beach city land, where dozens of flowers and plants bloomed in the midst. Rose ran ahead, beckoning the purple gem to come along.
She twirled around within the beautiful flowers, throwing her arms all around, showing how much she loves the planet and its beauty. “These here are called Flowers, they are all their own individuals, but ultimately, it takes more than one flower to bloom into a huge patch like this!”
Amethyst walked up to a flower and noticed how its…glowing with health?
Her fascination on the unusually strong and glowing little plant life caught Rose’s attention.
The big gem slyly admitted, “I may have…used some of my abilities to grow a few missing patches here and there-” she said as she turned in embarrassment, awkwardly stroking her tuffs of hair. “Plants like these may not live long, as from our observation, they only live at most for one season, but they are all so very much worth it!”
When she turned back, she noticed Amethyst laying within the flowers, as if she found herself a flowerbed to lie down after all this time. She was moving her arms and legs as if shes making a snow angle from the flower patch-
Rose found that to be a very fun idea indeed and joined the small gem as they basked in the giant flower patches, each making a “flower angle” to commemorate the first every joy they had together.
SWISH
SWISH
SWISH
HEHEHE
The duo had their fun for a while, playing in the patches, showering each other with flower petals, and playing hide and seek.
Tho, Rose was a lot easier to find with her big fluffy hair and figure, while amethyst was just the right size to become invisible and be one within the flower patches.
After a few losses for Rose, she suggested they move on to something else.
She gave out her hand to the little gem, who was covered in flower petals, and gently pulled her out of the patches.
“Come on, there’s something else I would like to show you.”
She led Amethyst into a beautiful forest, dotted with freshly grown oaks and little saplings covered in dirt. Leaves were fluttering around the atmosphere while also gliding around the rays of sunlight that shone through the little gaps and fissures.
The two gems stopped at a flowing river, where the fresh, clear water streamed
Living creatures, mostly animals like butterflies, lions, but also the mentions of humans
“They kinda look like us, except they don’t live longer than a century and theyre very, very fragile. Us gems are very different from humans, so if you ever meet one, you have to be extremely careful not to hurt them, even if you don’t mean to.
Amethyst tried to get close, but Rose stopped her before she took another step closer.
The small gem turned her head back to see Rose carrying a worried expression, “Maybe we should start with observing them before we interact with them, they’ve never seen you before, so maybe we should start slow, alright?”
Before Amethyst could say anything, the human at the distance got up and disappeared into the forest.
The small gem sighed; she was so excited to meet other new people!
Rose reassured she’ll be able to meet them soon enough. “We’ll get to know them sometime in the future, come on, let’s head back to the temple and I’ll introduce you to the gems!!
The two gems held hands and started strolling back to the temple. There’s no awkward chemistry between the two, as they projected a simple mother daughter relationship, or even a sibling relationship, where one of them energetically leaped around the larger figure, while the figure in the middle giggled at the little ball of energy circling her and constantly made her laugh with great joy and longed snickers!
They reached the temple.
Rose asked Amethyst to stay behind so she can surprise them.
Just then, Garnet, Pearl and Coral warped back from their mission
Pearl reporting what happened as Coral and Garnet added on their own little details
“Oh Rose, you should’ve seen Garnet’s new gauntlet rockets and Coral’s amazing strike on that gem, with those two final blows, the gem monster was poofed in an instant!
Coral chimed in, “Well, we would’ve been able to throw in the final blow without your brilliant, strategic idea! Your plan made all the difference!”
Pearl blushed at the complement, “Why thank you Coral!”
While the two pearls were getting along well, the fusion stood behind and gleamed at the stronger friendship between the two pearls, looking very proud of both of them.
And judging from the grin, it was pretty clear to Rose that, the mission somehow got the three of them closer together.
As Rose slowly shuffled around, being suspiciously quiet, the gems noticed a little figure hiding behind her white dress. Pearl was the first to spoke.
P: uh, Rose…what do you have there?
The small gem hid behind Rose while a smoothy suddenly appeared on her hand.
R: A smoothy
Coral, who kept her eyes on the new gem, asked, “What’s a smoothy?”
Before Rose could answer the definition of the contraption in hand, Garnet interrupted by stating, “The smoothy is not something we should be concerned about right now…” while eyeing on the new, yet unexpected little gem.
“Garnet’s right.” Pearl agreed, “Rose, please tell me you didn’t bought that…thing with you?”
Amethyst decided to hide behind Rose completely after hearing that statement. Rose slowly turned and calmed her down before she said more.
“Pearl, you should think before you say, otherwise someone might get their feelings hurt you know?” Rose suggested while holding on to the small, frightened gem.
Pearl was a quick thinker, and it seemed that Rose took a liking to the little gem, which was rather typical of the leader. She’s a kind gem that wouldn’t take no for an answer after spending a certain amount of time with the object, Pearl of all gems should know better than to refuse whatever Rose brought in.
Coral and Garnet turned to Pearl, who sighed in desperation, “Rose, may we know where and how did you find…her?”
The big gem slowly, and abruptly responded, “I…uh, was taking a stroll in the kindergarten until I noticed her hiding in one of the holes! Yeap! That’s how it happened! Totally not moping around the places we hurt and trying to bring justice by destroying those that caused it! Haha…ha…” Rose, looking embarrassed, tried very hard not to do or say anything more.
The three gems were trying their best to interpret her words as positive statements, but from their time together, they pretty much got the idea of how things went down exactly.
Coral stood a step forward, “Rose, are you sure about this? She’s not like the other Amethyst gems we know. I mean, compared to the other quartz friends we had, she’s small, she can barely speak, and probably doesn’t know anything about being a gem!”
Rose took that information and digested it for a short while before she came up with ideas to counter those issues.
“She can learn! While I was talking to her, I noticed she repeat whatever I said, just in a different way to convey another message! As for not knowing what being a gem is about, that’s okay too! We can teach her without having her go through any of those Homeworld stuff, wouldn’t that be great!?” Rose was gleaming at the idea of a gem with no prior knowledge to how gems are “supposed” to be and allowing themselves to be whatever they want to be!
Amethyst came out just a little bit from her hiding and repeated the last word she heard, “Great!” before scuttling back.
Coral still doesn’t look convinced as she turned to the fusion, “Garnet, what do you think?”
“Hmmmm…” Garnet made a look that could only mean one thing, she’s trying to see the little gem’s future. Future vision can be tricky, but it’s good to see what could potentially happen when we add in another factor into the equation.
Her shades shone as the possibilities were carefully drafted and narrowed down to the most likely events. “In the futures where we accept her, I see her adapting to our lifestyle, but nothing much on how it’s going to end. There’s a possibility of her being a great asset to us, but there’s also the possibility of her being a greater liability than we could ever imagine.”
“I like those odds!” Rose gleamed at the wide range of unpredictability.
Coral didn’t want to rain on Rose’s parade or be a wet blanket seeing her being so happy. But she’s also not completely on board with this…new gem appearing out of nowhere.
Pearl was the first to speak, “It’s always been just the four of us, I don’t know about having that unproperly developed gem into the team. It’s rather suspicious that she suddenly shows up at the kindergarten when that place has been shut down centuries ago! She might be a spy from homeworld for all we know! Or worse!”
Coral gasped in horror and whispered, “Ohno…There’s something worse than spies!?”
“Coral please,” Garnet reminded, “focus.”
It was up to that point where Rose finally realized why the gems were not on board with the idea of adding a
new member. Homeworld was still a threat, they’re never safe if they keep including new people they don’t know.
It’s only been some time since the blinding light turned all the gems on Earth into corrupted monsters. A lot of them were still out there, alone, confused, and most importantly, scared. Those gems were once powerful individuals that were indestructible, but now, they’re terrified gem monsters running around, fleeing from who knows what, not knowing what to do in their current state.
But this Amethyst, the sweet, innocent, and lonely gem, won’t be facing that kind of terror any longer when she has us.
Rose took one more look at Amethyst, who was trying her best to be unnoticed by the other gems, and was determined to take her in.
“Now Crystal gems, don’t you see this is our only chance to have a gem untainted with the rules of Homeworld?” Rose started her topic with the recollection of the crystal gem origin. “Wasn’t that what we were fighting for? To be free of Homeworld’s rules and to live without a care? To preserve the life on Earth instead of taking it, and leaving nothing behind?”
Rose continued, “The earth, the rebellion-”
“Its more than just that! It’s also for love! The love for ourselves, and the love we have for each other! We never get to show our love anywhere except here! And right now, we have Amethyst who has been living in an abandoned kindergarten, and has probably never been loved through her entire existence! If we neglect her, we’re going against everything we’ve worked so hard for. Besides, she’s a newcomer who had never experienced the horrible tragedy of Homeworld. I mean, isn’t this a good thing we found her right before any homeworld gems did?”
She didn’t wait for a response and proceeded, “We can teach her everything about the earth and the crystal gems. Coral! You can teach her what being a Crystal Gem is all about! Pearl! You could teach her about speech and physical formation! Garnet! You could teach her about our current missions or even gem fusion! I know she’s different from us, but she can handle this! With us keeping her safe, she won’t have to face any of those linear rules like staying within your duty, or being cast away as off colours when you don’t fit in with the others?”
“She can be a free gem right from the start, without facing the trauma we had. What do you say?”
Rose’s words were being very persuasive and all, but none of the gems seemed to budge towards the ideas from their dear leader.
“Rose, please, still this is a risk to take. Risks that could potentially have an impact on our freedom and the earth!” Garnet spoke with a hint of fear, perhaps took a glance towards the possibilities of the future.
Pearl and Coral, each holding an arm, both stayed silent, but ultimately agreed with the fusion.
“Come on you guys, give her a chance, if you get to actually talk to her it might change your minds!” Rose turned around, but failed to see the small gem that was hiding behind her mere seconds ago.
“Uh…Amethyst?” Rose called out, but heard no response, nor saw the small figure behind her anywhere.
But all she saw were footprints leading back to the temple, and noticed the warp pad was just activated.
Amethyst went back home.
(A/N: Heyyyy so this is the second part of the newest chapter. As you may have known, i was pretty busy with the end of the University studies and internship, so i kinda had my hands full to do anything like writing for fun!
Now, this is the end of part 2, where i tried to keep things a bit more interesting, but not too complicated that it would go on for more than 3 parts.
And again, sorry for the lack of visuals. Some of you might prefer reading with the images, and unfortunately, i currently do not have the motivation to be drawing, even if most of them would be tracing from screenshots of the show itself.
When the chapter gets done, i might be doing some of the screenshot edits and reblog them under the written chapters. So theres that to look forward to.
Anyways, thanks for reading and liking this story i wrote. It's not as glamorous and interesting as the previous chapters, but it's still something i consider worth venturing into.
Pearlplusau Chapter 7 Part 3 – Tower of mistakes I
Back to the kindergarten, where earth life failed to re-take what was theirs, preserved its gloominess even after the only living being that left came back a few moments ago.
The Crystal Gems, Rose, Garnet, Pearl and Coral materialized from the temple and on to the shiny warp pad. The four commenced their search in the vast range of the kindergarten.
The eerie and unsettling kindergarten had seen better days, with the abducted nutrients and life of the place, it seemed to be getting worse and worse every time they visited.
The gems considered checking the holes one by one, just to see if Amethyst was hiding in any of them.
As Pearl leaped onto one of the holes on the wall, she encountered the hole filled with a cloud of dust blown into her face. She quickly retreated and exclaimed, “Gah! *cough cough* Ughh!” as she jumped back down with the others covered in dust.
As Pearl dusted herself off, she informed her findings to the group, “Look at all these *cough* dust, they’re everywhere! How can you even see with all this smoke everywhere? It didn’t use to look like this when we came here last time-”
Coral thought about it and suggested, “Well, it has been a very long time since we’ve visited this place. The situation became worse with time, look! All the life from this land got sucked away-
The gem leader interrupted the pearl’s observation, “And it’s all our fault, those diamonds knew about it too. We weren’t creating life from nothing, we were taking life from this beautiful land, and leaving nothing behind…
The fusion approached the closest wall and brushed it with her fingers. Dusts and grime were removed where Garnet interceded. “This is not a safe place for gems, especially gems without training, there could be gem monsters lurking around, and if they find her at the end, things will not go well for anyone.”
Just the thought of Amethyst being at risk and exposed to this place, this root of all their problems, this place where it all started. The giant pink gem couldn’t bear to imagine the dangers lurking around this place, much less how the little gem would have kept herself safe for much longer!
“Come on gems,” Rose led the way deeper into the kindergarten, “Let’s find Amethyst and get out of here.”
As the gems ventured, they did a quick review on the Injectors, making sure none of them were activated since the entire operation was shut down. Most of them were immediately deemed as untouched as evident by the layers of dust accumulated on the machines themselves.
While they searched, Rose asked the fusion for any possible outcomes from her future vision. “Do you see anything regarding us finding Amethyst? Preferably being very quick and easy?”
The fusion was trying her best, but she was unable to search for a possibility of them finding the gem without knowing the gem.
“Unfortunately, no. I can’t exactly predict someone’s future if I have no clue what she’s like. If you can let me know what her way of thinking is, then maybe there might be a chance to get to her faster.” The fusion suggested.
“Her way of thinking?” Rose echoed and took some time to properly consider and recall her interactions with the little gem, “To be completely honest with you Garnet, I’ve only found her for less than a day. I got so caught up in trying to protect her and have her join the Crystal Gems, I wasn’t exactly paying much attention to what she was trying to show me, not to mention the things she was trying to tell me!”
“Then this search party,” Garnet informed, “Might take a while.”
The four gems looked around the first few segments of the kindergarten, until Rose led them to where she found her.
The pink figure peeked around into the hole, but saw no Amethyst inside.
“This is where I found her, it’s the only hole that can be easily differentiated from the others.” She backed out from the hole and tried to think, “She did show me a bunch of other places, pretty sure there was this… rock collection? Something about a sitting rock?”
As the leader wracked her brain, trying to figure out the possible hiding places the little gem could be. A boulder appeared on the edge of the wall above them, slowly it was pushed off the edge of the wall, and it was about to land right on top of the gems.
As the boulder’s shadow grew, Garnet immediately noticed the upcoming danger and shouted to the group, “Gems! Scatter!”
Just as the boulder was about to come in contact with Rose’s scalp, the four gems leaped into all directions away from the boulder as it crashed into the space in front of Amethyst’s hole.
Coral tumbled and landed the furthest away from the boulder, and saw a figure on top of the wall, along with multiple boulders lined up along the edge. “Look! Someone’s pushing boulders off the edge of the wall!”
The gems immediately gathered to see who it was, Rose was the first to realize and gasped, “I-its Amethyst! What is she doing up there!?”
Just as she questioned it, the purple gem was attempting to push another boulder directing to the gems once more, her expression filled with rage and anguish, with no showcase of sympathy for the gems she was about to injure.
“Amethyst No!” Rose shouted as she shook her arms, hoping to get her attention before her next push. “Stop this! What are you doing!? You’re gonna get hurt!”
On top of the wall, Amethyst was grunting and using all her might to shove the boulder over the edge, trying to ignore Rose’s pleads.
When the boulder finally reached the edge of the wall, it plummeted straight down but failed to land further than the previous rock. The giant stone landed right next to boulder number 1 and made no more attempts to move after the fall.
Amethyst saw the little impact of the second boulder and stomped at the edge, proceeding with boulder number 3.
“No! Amethyst! Stop! “Amethyst please! This isn’t a safe place for you! We have to leave, let’s get out of the kindergarten and go back home!”
Rose was pulling out all the stops, but it only made things worse.
Amethyst heard the plea this time, but she made no effort in stopping as she grumbled loud enough for Rose to hear, “Nononononono! Stopstopstopstop!”
As Rose was trying to get through the little gem, Garnet quickly gathered the two pearls and tried to come up with ideas for their situation. “Something’s not right.”
Pearl threw her arms to the sky and exclaimed, “Of course something’s not right! That little twerp is causing mayhem by trying to crush us with giant boulders! How did she even get them up there?!”
Coral was looking back and forth between Rose and Amethyst, “We have to do something! One of them could get hurt! Do you guys understand anything she’s screaming about?”
On que, Amethyst cried out even louder than before, “No! No go back! Kindergarten home! KINDERGARTEN HOME!”
“Ahh, guess someone’s not ready for change in her life.” She commented before the trio got back to their leader.
-
A few miles away from the kindergarten, existed a burrow with a giant slumbering red snake gem taking residence. The snake was as large as a typical gem monster (about the size of the centipeetle) with red scales and something attached to its end that makes a rattling sound ever so often. A bright red gem was located on the chest area, as well as a pale yellow rattle at the end of its tail.
Unfortunately for the untimely contraptions caused by a stubborn purple gem in the distance, the borrow shook from every boulder that crashed into the ground, causing dirt and dust to splatter onto the snake monster, which rudely woke up the monster from its slumber. Additionally, the repetitive protests of the purple gem became louder and louder, and ultimately it became so loud that even beings underground were unable to tune it off.
The combination of the shaking burrow and loud screaming got the snake gem enraged, it snapped its bright yellow eyes open and directly slithered towards the kindergarten.
Above the slithering snake monster, Rose was trying her best to discourage the purple gem’s choice of action. Unfortunately, either the gem above didn’t want to listen, or there was something else that’s overpowering her.
Pearl stood next to her leader, trying to get her out of harm's way. “Rose, she’s not listening. This is a really dangerous situation we’re in, maybe we should let it out of her system and come back later!”
Rose refused to leave her, not again. “No! We can’t give up yet! I just need to get through her! That’s all!”
As the four gems evaded all the boulders that could potentially crush them if not paid attention, they failed to register the idea that the contraptions would attract a nearby corrupted gem monster.
Garnet was the only one feeling something moving beneath her. She noticed the being travelling from the ground level and slowly making its way upwards towards Amethyst and her row of boulders.
“There’s something going after her.” The fusion concluded.
The snake reached to the top of the wall, it cautiously broke out of the dirt and approached the purple gem with no more than a peep. The monster sneaked up on the unaware gem and readied its stance.
The monster loomed over with great height, narrowed its eyes, bared its fangs, and made one last move before it attacked. “You have awakened me from my slumber,” it seemed to say as it rose behind the gem, “and now, you will shatter.”
Hissss-
The purple gem’s next push was interrupted by the unexpecting snake guest. She turned around just in time to see the maw of the snake as it lunged towards her face. On instinct, Amethyst leaped backwards to avoid the snake monster’s bite, but in exchange, she tripped and fell over the edge of the wall.
The momentum of the snake lunging into Amethyst did not stop, therefore it proceeded to fall with the said gem over the cliff.
The gems below screamed in horror as both figures fell right in front of them. Rose summoned a giant protective bubble around her and the gems just in time!
Both Amethyst and the snake monster landed with a loud crash. When the mayhem and cloud dusts subsided, the purple gem looked unhurt, but so was the monster as it shook off the debris on its head and found Amethyst behind!
Amethyst was between the wall and the monster, so the only method of escape was to hide in the hole of the wall.
The small sized hole did not stop the monster’s pursuit as it smacked itself into the wall. The stubborn snake was persistent as it proceeded to smash itself head first into the hole. Fortunately, its head was too big to even fit into the hole. Unfortunately for the wall, its consistent smashing was causing various rocks to fall off, causing more destruction to the wall than it has already endured.
Pearl, being one of the gems to witness the whole thing, turned to her leader and demanded, “Rose! What should we do?”
Unfortunately, Rose was being too fixated on Amethyst to get the question.
The fusion Garnet being logical, suggested their next move, “We have to get that monster's attention! Rose! Any ideas?”
As Rose watches the monster repeatedly slamming itself into Amethyst's hiding, she notices the walls were cracking and were not going to last long, she released the bubble and charged straight into the chaos! “Amethyst! Stay right there! I’ll save you!”
Coral tried to take hold of Rose, but she was out of reach of her grasp, “Rose wait!”
Rose dove into the chaos without taking in the monster’s size. Just when she was at reach of Amethyst’s hiding, the monster swung its rattle tail, smacked the leader and got her flying into the air!
The three gems gasped as their leader flung overhead, who looked to be in shock from the impact.
The pink figure slammed head first into the opposing wall, promptly collapsing from the impact, leaving giant cracks left on the wall as the indication of how much force was in that knockout.
The three gems shrieked in terror of their leader's collapse. They recalled immediate flashbacks to the horrid war and a similar situation such as this.
Garnet took immediate charge, “Coral! Get Rose out of here! Pearl! I hope you’re ready, we need someone with a giant mallet to take care of that thing!”
“Got it!”
“Understood!”
Coral ran towards their leader while Pearl took Garnet’s hands and performed a quick fusion dance of ballet, twirling and mystic hip moves.
The first thing Coral had to check was the gemstone, and sure enough, it was undamaged, which gave out a huge relief. The next thing she had to do was to take her somewhere out of danger. Luckily, there were various walls and rocks to take cover, so Coral did the next best thing: dragged her leader by the arms towards the nearest cover until she woke up, and believe her, Rose was not someone you would want to be passing out or even passing around in a battlefield.
The fusion dance ended in both gems syncing into a single form with a single goal, to take care of the gem monster.
It has only been a few times since the two gems tried fusing, but the fusion was well established on her role and literal character trait. She still retained the round shoulder pads and light blue suit from her respective counterparts, as if she has yet to establish her own outfit.
“Gooooood Evening everyone!” The giant fusion generously announced as she took in the situation. “Looks like we have a little surprise guest! Why don’t you turn your head for a change and pay attention to the cam- to me?”
The entrance did not however, capture the monster’s attention as it persistently focused on the hole that was way too small to fit into.
The fusion was very much offended, but still maintained her showmanship for the audience. “Seriously? Nothing? There was that bright ray of stage light that shouldn’t even be possible under all these gloomy clouds. I even used my loud and charming voice to announce my amazing entrance!”
The corrupted snake monster proceeded to ignore Sardonyx’s demand and presumed to snake its way into Amethyst’s hole at the base of the wall.
The fusion recalled her goal of temporary existence, to save the little gem in the hole and get the monster’s attention.
She summoned Pearl’s spear and Garnet’s gauntlets. She chuckled as she combined the two weapons, forming it into a giant mallet. “Hmm, mayybeee this will get your attention!” She said as she twirled to get that extra spinning hit!
“Hammer time!” she exclaimed as she whooped the monster with her mallet.
With one hit, the monster finally turned its head around and was immediately met with a second hit into the wall. The damage might not be as one might expect but taking it out before it takes out the entire wall seemed like a plan.
While Sardonyx does a number on the gem monster, Amethyst was trembling in her hiding place, trying her best not to cry out of fear. When the monster was repeatedly slamming itself into her hiding, she could see the cracks on the walls getting bigger and bigger, with a few more hits, the hole might not be able to maintain its form and collapse from the effort. Potentially poofing and shattering the gem within.
Amethyst wasn’t sure what would happen next, but the fear made her realize what she might miss if she gets trapped forever.
She would miss her little playground she called home, her officially claimed rock titles, and her rock family she gathered! But what surprised her was that she would also miss the sunshine on the other side of her world, those flowers she pranced over like a baby goat, and most of all, she would miss the nice lady that brought her there! Even if she wasn’t exactly the happiest gem in her place of home, she was still the nicest being she’s ever met!
As the purple gem went through her thoughts, she hugged her legs and curled into a ball within the deepest part of the hole she emerged from. Hoping that if she had to go, she would go back to where she came from…
End of Part 3
(A/N: If you noticed, the title of the chapter is "Tower of Mistakes I", marking it being part 1 of the part 3...chapter...
Tbh I couldnt think of a better name since i had "Tower of Mistakes" as the entire end of the chapter until I had to split it into two parts.
Anyways, one of the artwork up there might look more like a doodle, but its not traced so i guess its still something! Also that snake trace was from my internship, which I'll let you guys check it out later with the references.
I gave some friends of mine early access to the story till the finale and they've loved it and commented it being heartwarming. Hopefully thats gonna be your reaction as well when we reach the finale!
Again, this is mostly a writing blog, so if you have a critique about the story that could make it better, I'll be more than happy to take a look and possibly even adjust the story accordingly! Questions and asks are welcome! Just not about Tripixle again, She's long retired and I've tagged our last interaction together at the pinned post.
If you've read till the end, thank you for reading what I have to say, i respect that!
Pearlplusau Chapter 7 - The newest member
Part 1 - Found
At the Prime kindergarten in Facet 5-
Before the emergence of gems, there were these Injectors, machines used to insert gem stones along with certain diamond essences and incubated within soil for their nutrition and minerals. Before the gem war, earth gems among the few earth kindergartens, gained their needed resources and energy in creating their individual new quartz gem. The form, the mentality and physicality were being considered during the incubation process. However, the inserted position of a certain gem, faced certain difficulties in emerging along her fellow sisters. That said, the wall of Earth, held the gem tighter, reluctant to let it go, which led this gem to have a much longer incubation period than the usual quartz.
It has been more than a hundred years, the dark and empty kindergarten was still very much deserted, no humans, no gems, no plants, no life in sight, not even a weed.
The empty holes on the walls, shaped and sized of a larger humanoid figure, remains very much intact. All of them were in neat positions, arranged in dozens of lines per wall, with the lowest lines being at least 2 meters away from the ground.
These holes were not always empty, they were the homes of many individuals, hundreds of gems just from one wall.
It was during the start of the colonization period where the newly inserted gems were finally starting to emerge, one minute it was an empty corner of the earth, the next minute, soldiers were popping out of the walls and bustling to their duties.
One by one the quartzes emerged, leaping into the air and floating down like it’s no big deal. “Yep, one second old and imma ready to jump! GERONIMO!” And one by one the gems landed and waited for their fellow comrades before they report to the station.
A batch of amethyst soldiers with various hair styles were standing around their landing area, waiting for the rest to emerge before they move on. Another gem came and greeted the group, “Heyyy fellow quartzes, what are we all up to?”
An amethyst with some spunky hair and a mega thick bang replied, “There’s two more from our unit that haven’t emerged yet, so we’re gonna wait for’em.”
Shhiinngggg-POOF!
Just as the quartz finished her response, the wall they were facing trembled and a pink-ish white glow came to life. The glow immediately dimmed as fast as it was lit, and another amethyst emerged from the section of the wall. She landed on her knees and grunted, “Ughhhh…”
The pink gem approached the newly emerged amethyst, her tone was astonishment and amazed, “Wow! Look at you! *Giggled* Welcome to Earth!”
The amethyst responded to the kind words with, “That is the first, and nicest thing anyone has ever said to me.”
Another purple gem rushed from the reporting area and demanded, “What’s going on here? Our orders were to move out as soon as you emerged!” She sounded like one of them, deep, rashly voice, but it also involved a higher authority in command.
One of the gems in the crowd protested, “Butttt 8XM hasn’t emerged yet!”
“She can catch up to us later! GOGOGO!”
All the purple quartzes rushed to the reporting area, hoping the last quartz would emerge soon and join their sisterhood. But alas, as centuries went by, the unit was never reunited with their last sister, they assumed she was ordered to complete other tasks like certain gems. The assumption turned out to be true, but not the way the quartzes were expecting.
After the war and the retreat of the homeworld gems, the kindergarten were abandoned and deserted as empty husk of walls with hundreds and thousands of holes neatly dotted around. Above the walls, it was all grey, with no creatures surviving the area, nor any plant life sprouted at the lowest point of the husk. That is, until the last gem finally emerged from her long incubation.
Shhiinngggg-POOF!
There was a ruckus coming from the end of the wall. The point of emergence of the small gem was completely distant, isolated, and separated from the other quartze holes above, as if the gem was ostracized from the unit in general.
As the gem tumbled out of the hole, she observed her surroundings, but all she saw was emptiness. This was a place filled with other gems, laughter, sisterhood. But to her, it was a barren of nothingness.
The little purple gem slowly got to her knees and crawled towards the nearest rock for a better view of the valley. She slowly stood her ground, steadied herself, and tried to look as far away as possible, hoping for any signs of life.
But still…
Nothing…
Only the sounds of a distinct little voice, whispering across the valley, it sounded sad, and empty.
“I came out late, and alone. Nobody but my own.”
The gem stood, hoping for someone, anyone, that can guide her away to a place full of friends, joy, and laughter.
Or even other gems…
Anything would be better than this…
The fog was pretty dense at this time of the year. The walls were still towering, blocking any form of sunlight into the kindergarten. Several hundreds of Injectors were still in their positions, some were not as lucky. Overtime, the grips of the injectors claws became rusty and loose, most of them were still where they were left, but some lost their grips and fell into the empty chasm Amethyst called Home.
The gem was climbing on to a boulder sized rock, and as she stood on top, she decided to claim it as her climbing rock as it’s the tallest rock among the rest!
The other rocks still have their own quirks, the closest rock was her sitting rock, which is the perfect rock shape and size for her to be sitting. The other rock however, did not feel right, so the little gem gave it a good kick!
Crack!!
There! Now its two rocks made from one! She let out a satisfying note, and went back to her hole.
Amethsyt was imagining what else in her home needs revamping, until she heard something, something completely different from the sound of rolling stones and dusty air.
Shes never heard anything like that before, it was always just errie echo, but she got used to that, and now, the new sound scares her.
She decided to investigate, she cautiously got out of her hole, tiptoed closer to the sound and hid behind a rock.
When the small gem took a quick peak, she saw a giant pink figure in a white dress and fluffy curls, slowing wandering around the area, kicking the pebbles everywhere, looking rather, depressed, and frustrated.
She heard her mumbling, smth about earth? And life? Amethyst never heard any of the sounds coming from her mouth, but from the looks in her eyes, the pink gem was furious at the giant machines.
Her slow-paced dragging transitioned into angry stomps, in no time, she was standing in front of a broken down injector.
The machine, covered in centuries worth of dust, stood at least 15 times bigger than the pink figure, but it looked no more threatening than the gem itself.
Amethyst tried to observe with all the rocks blocking the target, after merely just one step out of her hiding place, the pink figure turned to a scowl at the giant machine.
Her face lit up as the gem readied her stance, half a second later, she was floating above the giant injector machine. The pink gem cracked her knuckles with a satisfying “Crack” and held her fists tight.
She rocketed down into the machine, slamming herself through its interior, and obviously not hold back, but not using her full strength either.
With a blink of an eye, amethyst went from looking at a standing injector machine, to the machine split in half, to which one half was falling towards her hiding place.
It took her a while to digest, but she was able to quickly react to the danger in front of her before it was too late.
Eeeeep!
Amethyst ran, and just before the remaining of the machine could hit the ground, the gem plopped into her own hole, immediately feeling safe as the smell and space soothed her.
But it wasn’t soothing for long.
Just as the machine fell and crashed, all the dust and sand around got blown away from its impact, and a lot of the dust got into Amethysts hole, making her nose really, really, really itchy.
“A……aahchoo!”
Amethyst immediately covered herself after that sneeze, but alas, the sound of a kitten sneeze went out to the world, especially to anyone nearby.
As the sound of rubble went out, the pink figure spoke, “Hello?”, sounding very surprised and very close. “Is someone there?”
Amethyst continued covering herself, hoping with enough pressure on her face, she would be unseen and unnoticed.
As the dust cleared out, it became clear that the figure was slowly walking towards her direction.
As the footsteps gets louder and louder, Amethyst backed up the wall as far as she could, even hugging the wall didn’t seem to do her any favors. That thing crushed those giant machines! Amethyst herself tried to move the machine for her new spots, but the thing never budged an inch!
The voice outside continued, “Don’t be scared, I’m not going to hurt you or anything! Please come out, I just want to help you if you got hurt!”
For some reason, the more she spoke, the more amethyst became at ease. The purple gem didn’t understand, but the voice somehow soothed her, but it’s also making her do something she doesn’t want to. The last thing she would wanna do is to walk out of her hiding place, but her body moved before her thoughts became clear, as if it was following an instinct from that voice.
The small gem crept out from her hole, but she kept herself in the shadow, just in case the voice was dangerous.
The smoke cleared up, and the figure became clear. It was a very tall, very big, figure in a white dress, and giant fluffy pink curls reaching to the back of her knees. As much darkness there was in the kindergarten, the pink figure looked like she moved with caution, but she was glowing with energy, stepping on each foot with such grace, moving with such kindness, almost making amethyst stick her head out for a better view.
The figure spotted the little gem, yet still she moved with the gentle pace, not making too much noise or else it could scare her away.
“Why hello there.” Rose gently greeted as she approached the gem and her hiding place.
“Hello there.” The small purple gem echoed, standing up and trying to mimic Rose’s actions.
At this point, Rose was…surprised to say the least.
“This is a bit…unexpected.” Rose scratched her hair, “But it’s also not impossible since this place wasn’t visited since the first time I came here. Oh, sorry, I’m rambling, my name is Rose Quartz.” She extended her arm to the small gem for a handshake, “What’s your name?”
The purple gem wasn’t sure what to do with the extended arm, she stared at the arm, and glanced at her own hands. Seemingly putting the pieces together, the purple gem slowly extended her own arm.
But when Rose tried to grasp on the hand for a good introductory shake, that took Amethyst by surprise.
“Eeeeep!” She squeaked while retracting her arm back.
The pink gem tilted her head at the reaction, trying to make sense of the squeaking, little to no vocal response and the horrified handshake.
“Maybe she’s…not fully developed?” She thought to herself while retracting her hand as well.
Rose decided maybe sitting down would allow her to understand from the small gem’s point of view.
Just as Rose kneeled down and folded the back of her dress for a better sitting position, the purple gem followed her every move even though she was very much not in a long dress, just a lot more clumsiness in her sitting position.
When Rose was finally settled in her seating position, she found the small gem sitting down, which was not something she was expecting.
Rose wanted to try some other actions to see if they’re just coincidences or if the gem was intentionally attempting to mimic her every move.
An arm was raised above the head, a smaller arm was raised above the head. The arm slowly pat the top of her own head, same did the small one’s arm. The other arm reached out and gently tapped to her own nose, and the nose of the small gem was touched by her own fingertips. It was as if Rose was facing a mirror, and the purple gem in that “reflection” was following every move.
However, as the movements got more and more complicated for the small gem to follow, she inevitably got confused and tumbled down, making adorable giggling sounds of fun and laughter!
Upon hearing the infectious laughter, Rose was unable to control herself and joined in the laughter, especially since the laughter was echoing all over the empty kindergarten.
After the laughter finally settled down for both of them, the small gem sat right back up and made a huge grin! Possibly telling the giant pink gem that she was finally feeling something she likely hasn’t felt before.
Since the small gem didn’t speak, Rose made a small interpretation that the small gem didn’t know how to talk or possibly even her own name! But judging from her gem colour, shade and cut, she could tell that the purple gem was an Amethyst, similar to all those amethyst soldiers popping all over the place all those centuries ago.
Rose returned the smile and tried again with the names. She pointed to her naval, showing the pink gem while introducing herself once more. “So I’m Rose Quartz, you can just call me Rose.”
The purple gem struggled but was able to slowly repeated her name. “R-rose?”
“Yes! That’s right! And you’re an amethyst! Would you like to be called with that name? Amethyst?”
The small figure pointed to the gem on her chest, “A-amitist?”
“Yeap, you’re getting it!”
The small gem giggled, “Hehehe-Ametist! Ametyst! Amethyst!” and tumbled around the dirt, making her rock hair collection more and more exquisite!
To Amethyst, the movements, the names, the giant lady in front of her, these were something completely new. Still, something about this gem feels soooo familiar, but she couldn’t put her finger on it.
However, even with the sudden appearance and brutal power towards the weird looking machines, she felt safe within her presence. All her gem life, she’s been alone, but never in danger, but also never had the warmth of safety like the feeling she had right now!
The small gem made a brief decision to trust this giant pink gem.
The small gem used her hand to grasp one of Rose’s finger, trying to pull her and show her something nearby.
“Ohhh! Do you have something to show me Amethyst?” Rose kidded with the slight tone of curiosity.
The purple gem led Rose to-
An assorted rock collection.
Amethyst guided Rose to the first rock, it was at the height of the purple gem’s neck, which was almost up to Rose’s knees.
The small gem slowly climbed up the rock, and sat on the said rock.
It took Rose sometime to see it, but she made a pretty accurate guess of what she’s doing. “Oh! Is this your…Sitting rock? The rock where you take a seat?”
Amethyst scooted to the side and pat the little space she made, signifying Rose to join her.
Rose considered the kind offer, but she gently rejected her generosity of sharing the sitting rock. “Oh! Thank you Amethyst! But I don’t think the rock is the right size for me. And I’m very certain that the rock won’t be a good seat for the both of us!”
Amethyst was trying to see the issue of her kind offer, but she didn’t mind the rejection, shrugged off and moved on to the next rock.
The next rock was a lot bigger than the previous one, it was the size of a boulder to be exact.
Amethyst stood at the base of the big rock and immediately climbed up the said rock. As she sat at the top, she became face level with Rose, being able to see more than her long dress.
“Soooo, no wait let me guess! This is yourrrr climbing rock? The rock that you use to climb and see things from far, far away?”
“Far, far away!!” Amethyst echoed while jumping up and down on the rock.
The purple gem leaped down the rock and tried to show Rose more of her rock collection, or even her current family! Where she’s developed relationships with each and every one of these inanimate objects, showcasing just how long she’s been on her own.
Rose became more and more fascinated by the little gem, seeing how different she became without being brainwashed and used as another soldier for war.
But if she wants to ensure her freedom from the horrible shackles of Homeworld, she might need to take some, unfair but necessary precautions.
Just as Amethyst was showcasing her last rock, Rose decided to show HER something. “That was super fun getting to know your rock family! You know, I got something I would like to show too! Would you like to see it!?”
She gave out her hand, waiting for Amethyst to gently put down her rock.
After the first interaction with the hand, she was more comfortable and gripped onto her hand almost immediately! Before they took off, Rose had to stay low in order for her to walk with Amethyst holding her hand.
As they travelled throughout the kindergarten, Rose realized that Amethyst was moving with a lot more cautious within the other sections of the kindergarten, indirectly telling Rose that she’s never been away from her hole or her rock family for a long time.
Either Amethyst didn’t want to lose her way to where shes the most familiar at, or she never step a foot out of her usual area at all.
But the assumptions and theories made Rose even more determined to lead her for a better place, a better environment for her to be a new era of crystal gems.
At last, they made it. Rose led Amethyst to a warp pad, it was the white coloured shiny pedestal on one of the higher grounds, something amethyst herself could never figure out. Not because she doesn’t know how to warp, but because she didn’t know there were other places than the kindergarten.
Amethyst slowly approached the shiny looking warp pad, she concentrated on the edge of the pad, looking very hard to break.
She looked up to Rose on the warp pad, who was giving her encouraging smiles. The purple gem wasn’t sure, but again, something about this giant, fluffy pink gem seemed familiar, as if she was where she belonged.
She slowly joined Rose on the warp pad, still unsure what it’s purpose is for.
Rose started to explain, “Soo, this is a warp pad, we gems use it to travel around the world. The earth might actually feel small once you get used to it but walking for days just to get somewhere is a bit…boring.” Sounding rather embarrassed from a certain incident, Rose proceeded, “The point is, we can use this to travel anywhere on earth with ease. Come on, let me show you our little hideout.”
Amethyst wasn’t sure at first, she echoed and questioned, “our little hideout?” emphasizing on the word.
“Why yes!” Rose responded, “You see, I’m in this group called The Crystal Gems, and I would like to take you in as a new member! Wouldn’t that be so much fun! You’ll meet other gems and make friends instead of staying all alone in this boring, dense, and meaningless place?”
Rose sounded very eager to leave and go literally anywhere than stay one more second of the kindergarten.
But amethyst took note on the last thing she said, “Meaningless place?”
“Hm?” Rose realized what she just said but dismissed it poorly. “Oh that? Don’t mind that, I just meant this *arm spread*, is not a place for a cute little gem like you! Let’s go, shall we?”
Rose concentrated on the next where to go, and as she did, the warp pad glowed with Amethyst doing a quick glance, fascinated by the aura and the moonlight glow. As the warp pad glow brighter and brighter, the magic set its course and made a really loud “Shhiiinnggg~” sound, very much surprising the new gem who was now currently floating, travelling with the giant pink lady into anywhere but the place she called home.
Word count goal for part 1 – 3000 words, achieved. Total words: 3504.
heyyoo, you've reached the end of Part 1, Found, and yes it IS named after the song in the movie! That's what imma going for, naming each parter after a steven universe song (preferrable something fitting).
I think it fits pretty well since we're going through Amethyst's backstory, her origin and how she was first found by Rose (As mentioned in the episode "On the run"). We got to how she lived on her own for a while, her first interactions, and echoes/repeats (which were highlighted from the movie). Really love that i got the chance to show you guys my own take on Amethyst's origin! It was pretty fun from the writing perspective!
Again, in case anyone was in awe of the artworks, these pieces are traced from certain episodes of the show, which will be announced as its own post later on.
If you enjoyed reading this chapter, consider giving it a like or even a reblog! If the amount of notes of this post exceeds a certain number, like idk, 50? Then i would consider posting the second part of the chapter earlier than scheduled!
Anyways, and as always, thanks for reading and reaching to the end, really appreciate you guys for reading the whole thing, and see you guys maybe in two weeks.
An artwork that had complete zero tracing except for the backgrounds! (With drawing progress below!)
It might look blurry but i promise you its not! Have a better view by clicking in!
Yeah the backgrounds for Pearl and Garnet are literally from the show itself. Full images and references below!
If you read and remember the finale, you already know what's going on in this pic!
But just in case
Garnet told Amethyst abt her prediction in the lava pond, which resulted in uncontrollable giggles from the purple gem!
Pearl taught Amethyst abt the spoken language, as you can see she's projecting the lessons she's going to teach!
Coral taught her form and weapons! Emphasizing the most important thing is to have a Practical form as well as being comfortable!
Step by step artworks on the characters!
Amethyst
Garnet, Pearl and Coral
If you noticed, I always start with the basic shapes, and then layer by layer, I add on details and entire the figure is right by referring to the image on the side!
And lastly, the backgrounds from the show itself!
Coral's room is gonna be it's own post, don't worry. I didn't forget.
Likes and reblogs are more than welcomed! There might be more posts like this coming soon! I have a new stylus pen and it's working great! Really motivated to draw these days!
(Also its kinda still a lockdown in Malaysia, as well as an extended order of the lockdown for two more weeks, so i dont think a job will be easy for any of us anytime soon.)
Thanks for checking out my posts, really appreciate if you read the whole thing instead of ignoring whatever I had to say! Thank you and have a great day!
PearlPlusau Chapter 7 Part 4 FINALE! - Tower Of Mistakes II
Meanwhile for Rose and Coral…
After Coral got Rose in a sitting position leaning against the wall, she tried waking the unconscious gem up and hoped she could tell why Amethyst was so opposed to going with them in the first place.
Coral had faced gems that were poofed or gained a crack in their gem during the war, but she had never tried waking up a gem from being unconscious. Knowing that Rose’s gem was fine and she was nowhere near poofing, the pearl truly had no idea what could be done.
She recalled the events up till then, and realized there’s one thing that needs to be done.
Coral apologizes, “Rose, this is all our fault, none of this would have happened if we accepted her right away. We made her feel unwelcomed and drove her back-”
*Rose wakes up from the guilt literally bestowed upon her*
Her eyes snapped open as she rubbed her head, “Ugh, what happened?”
“Rose! You’re okay!” Coral cheered as she dove in for a hug.
Rose however, did not reciprocate the hug, instead she gently pushed her aside and asked “Coral, did you say something while I was out?”
“Ye-yeah! I believe this is all our fault. If we had accepted her right away, she wouldn’t have felt so unwelcomed and not get attacked by that corrupted gem!” She repeated the words she said with a little bit more details. “We have to make things right! After Sardonyx takes care of the situation outside, I’ll ask Pearl and Garnet to come with me and apologize to the little gem.”
This scenario seemed familiar, so familiar that she’s hearing voices, it's White’s voice? But there’s also a mixture of her own. As she peered into the pearl’s eyes, the voices became a lot more vocal…
Oh Pink, letting others take care of your messes again. You couldn’t clean up the mess you made from that colonization project, the rebellion created is literally in shambles, and you’re still not taking responsibility for your own actions. You haven’t changed one bit, and you never will.
better representation below:
She wasn’t sure what to make of the voices in her head, but she knew what had to be done.
As Coral was about to leave for Pearl and Garnet, she was stopped by Rose’s hold. “Coral wait, please. There’s something you should know…”
The pearl turned with a look of concern, but she sat back down with the leader nonetheless.
“This is all my fault.” Rose admitted, “You three were right about the risks and how it could potentially sabotage our freedom on earth. But that’s not the case, Amethyst ran off and was chucking boulders to scare us away, not because she’s a spy trying to get us into harm's way, but to stay here because, because I bad mouthed the kindergarten, her home, and made her feel like it was not ok to be a part of it. Amethyst has been living in the kindergarten for who knows how long, and I never considered that this is a place she has been calling her home all this time! I looked down at the place she grew up, and it was unwise of me to do so.”
Coral didn’t make any comments as she solely listened, she knew silence was the required element at the moment.
The leader recalled the cracks of the walls she had witnessed, and proceeded to blame herself with a sob, “And now, she’s going to get hurt just because I couldn’t save her from that corrupted gem! Or worse!”
Rose’s hands were buried into her face, a face that was written with guilt and immeasurable fear for the gem and the events she had caused.
Coral tried to comfort the weeping gem, “Rose come on, you know it’s not entirely your fault! You were just trying to do what’s best for her, she just never realised it yet. We didn’t know about the monster, heck, we haven’t visited the kindergarten for decades! Don’t be so hard on yourself. It’s not your fault, and it’s not hers for not knowing the dangers of corrupted gems lurking around either.”
The fluffy pink gem made little sniff noises with her nose and responded, “Y-you really think so?”
“I know so.” Coral gave out a gentle smile, relieved that she’s out of her own pit. “Come on, I think Sardonyx is almost done out there. Let’s go say hi!”
Rose nodded and gently got up as her knockout was not a light bruise. The two gems came out and met up with the fusion who was just finishing up.
The fusion briefly greeted the two gems before she finished the job. “Why hello there you too! One moment please!” With one last smash with her mallet, the snake monster finally gave in and POOFED! Into a cloud of smoke as its blood red gem clinked to the ground.
“Good to see you too.” Rose greeted with a smile.
“Nice work Sards!” Coral cheered with higher enthusiasm for her efforts.
“You too darling! Glad to see our dear Rose is back on her feet!” The fusion approached the red gemstone, picked it up and encased it in an orange shaded bubble.
“This one was a real stubborn little snakey-snake! But I was able to give it a smashing time!” Sardonyx laughed at her own joke while holding the bubbled gem.
“Whelp, see you at the temple!” She bid the gem farewell and gave it a little tap. The bubble vanished and teleported into the temple. “And I’ll be seeing you, next time! Ta ta!!” And the fusion unfused, leaving her two components, Pearl and Garnet, posing for their return.
After the monster dilemma was resolved, the gems moved on to Amethyst.
The entrance of the hole was covered with giant rocks that pilled up from the smashing. Fortunately for the gems, that’s an easier challenge faced than the giant red snake which threatened to shatter the gems around.
Inside the hole, Amethyst was still in her hugging pose, unaware of the ceased attacks of the snake monster. The poor gem was covered in tears, dirt and grime all over.
Seeing a gem in this state, the gems were heartbroken of the ordeal she suffered, especially Rose. The leader of the gem tried to get closer to Amethyst, but the entrance was too small for her to fit through. She altered to sitting while facing the hole, hoping the purple gem could understand that the danger was over.
She knocked on the wall, hoping to get the small gem’s attention. “Amethyst?”
The gem called upon flinched, and gave a small sigh of relief when she saw the nice lady instead of the snake monster that was ready to shatter noise makers. But she made no apparent effort to get close to her.
“Hey….” Rose started, hoping for a response.
“….”
“Are you okay?”
“…”
“I get it, after all that, you might not want to be with us anymore. But you were right to run away and drop a bunch of boulders at us, at me! Because I deserve it. I belittled your home, the place you’ve lived for your entire existence, but you have to understand, this place could’ve looked like the flower patches we rolled in this afternoon! And I never realized it until it was too late.”
“…”
“I can’t expect you to forgive me so easily, all I ask is for you to give me a second chance. I don’t expect you to fully join us at this point, but from that monster attack, you should learn how to summon your weapon, or at least how to defend yourself so none of this would happen again!”
“…” Still no response.
Rose gave the little curled up gem ample time to respond, but she didn’t seem to budge.
“…well, I guess I should get going. If you ever change your mind, you’ll know where to find us, okay?”
The leader got up and turned to the gems, “Come on guys, let’s head back.”
As Garnet, Coral and Pearl followed their leader out of the kindergarten, Pearl noticed the layer of dirt on Rose’s backside of the dress.
“Rose, you might want to dust yourself, your dress is covered in dirt.” Pearl said as she was about to dust off the grey dust for her. But Rose intercepted her before she was able to brush it off.
“Nono, leave it there, I think I’ll keep it as a reminder for a little while. Thank you for the concern Pearl.
“Oh! Alright, if that’s what you want.”
As the group walked towards the warp pad, Coral asked the leader about something she found rather perplexed. “Uhm, Rose, isn’t the whole point of this mission was to recruit her as our newest member? You didn’t even try to persuade her or anything?”
The gems reached the warp pad and activated it to get back to the temple.
During the warp process, Rose gave an answer for her decision, “Well, I had the time to think, and I realized dragging her into the Crystal gems won’t do her any good if she’s not willing to join on her own terms. We can’t force our ideals on others, even if they can't see it for the better. Our only hope is to believe that Amethyst will make the choice of becoming a crystal gem on her own. Not just because I told her so.” Rose sighed while reminiscing about the past recruitments, “I just hope I didn’t force anyone into something they don’t believe in during the war. It would have just been a waste of life for them if they never understood the true intentions of the rebellion…”
The gems reached their destination, and were about to head into the temple before the pink pearl provided some assurances to the quartz.
“Well,” Coral responded, “I can give out 100% certainty that I knew what I was getting into, and you were right!”
Garnet added on, “The crystal gems weren’t just about protecting the earth. There’s also love involved, where we are more than able to love each other, and ourselves!”
Pearl pitched in, “Right! It’s also about the freedom of Homeworld’s rules, the freedom to do more than what we’re supposed to do!”
Rose turned to each member of the crystal gems, getting prouder after each statement, and grabbed everyone into a big huge! “Ohhh you guys, thank you for the reminder, and I’m glad we went through that, even though shes-
Just then, the warp pad was activated. The group turned and saw that the arriving gem was no other than-
“Amethyst!” Rose exclaimed with tears in her eyes, as she dropped the group hug and went for the purple gem from behind. “You really came! Thank you for giving me a second chance! Come on, I’ll formally introduce you to-”
Her welcome speech was cut short when she realized something was wrong. From the back, Amethyst looked fine, but on the front, there was an abnormally huge nose that took over the lower half of her face, her mouth was missing from her face.
Rose turned her around to get a proper look, and the purple gem’s eyes were trying to tell her that she was freaking out! She frantically pointed to the major issues and was on the verge of a breakdown.
The gems poked a peeked over their leader’s shoulder, “That, does not look good.” The fusion stated.
Rose was trying her best to stay calm, she scanned to see if there were any bite marks of the gem monster, but she couldn’t find any.
But then her eyes landed on her gem, and she puffed out a huge sigh.
“It’s nothing to worry about, you just cracked your gem a bit. It might have been from the falling.” Rose suggested.
Amethyst’s form slightly glitched out of place but she finally calmed down as Rose continued, “Our gems project light that makes our bodies as they are. Therefore, our bodies are reflected based on the gemstone’s state. Your face appeared to grow abnormalities because your gem cracked. I think there’s something I can do without messing up.”
Rose took hold of Amethyst’s face, making sure it was focused on her own.
“Amethyst, would you like me to heal your gem?” The pink lady asked, making sure she heard the main point of that question.
This time, the purple gem did not hesitate to give an answer. She frantically nodded her head to showcase she's ready to be fixed up.
“Very well, and since I’m here, we don't need to go for that extra trip to the fountain.” As soon as she finished saying that, she closed her eyes, and focused on the tearful events she had experienced.
She recalled her time where she found out her first shattered recruit, and that no tears in the world would be able to fully heal them.
She recalled her time where she had to fight against her best crystal gem just to save her old family, and that she won and stored her away from everyone else.
She recalled her time where she had to put up a shield against the attack from the other diamonds, regretting all the gems around her that got corrupted.
But most importantly, she recalled her time where she had to put up a scene in front of her entire entourage, making her final goodbyes to her pink diamond status, and finally being free for the very first time.
After a while, tears started streaming down her cheek, and a single drop was able to land right on top of Amethyst’s gem.
The gem began to react. It’s glow manifested to the rest of the body, making Amethyst the biggest glow in the dark being on Earth.
After the glow finally subsided, the abnormalities on Amethyst’s face returned back to normal. She checked her gem and noticed the crack was gone.
The grateful little gem tackled in for a hug, and said the first thing that came to mind.
“T-thank yo-u, R-rose.”
The leader was thrilled to see the gesture and hear that response, more tears streamed along her cheek as she responded, “Your welcome Amethyst.” And returned the hug.
(Quick A/N: I was really tempted to just end it here, since it feels like such a beautiful scene to end. But there are still questions left answered, so I had to continue. But if you want to end the story here, I can totally relate.)
-
“Does this mean you're ready to be a crystal gem now?” Rose asked after the hug ended.
Amethyst stared into the eyes of her saviour, and proceeded to stare at the rest of the gems before she gave her answer.
The three gems gave her various nods, as if joining the team would be the best thing that’s ever happened to anyone.
She nodded in response.
“Let me start off by introducing the gems, so this is…” Rose introduced the gems one by one, and one by one they returned the greeting of the little new recruit.
Shortly after the introduction, the gems went straight into training, but also not as much as to put too much pressure.
The first training session took place in Garnet’s room. Garnet was admiring the little gem’s ability to shapeshift with little to no trouble. “Very impressive, now let me show you what I can do.”
The fusion pointed at the lava pond in the middle of the room and gave her prediction to the little gem.
“One of the few strengths I have is future vision. I can predict what would happen and they would usually come true. For example: When you walk over there, 5 bubbles will pop continuously, and at the end of the session, you will be giggling on the floor. Ready? Go!”
The purple gem hurriedly ran for the lava pond, and just as she got there, a huge bubble burst, along with 4 other bubbles right after.
It might not be much to anyone else, but to Amethyst, it looked like the funniest thing she’s ever experienced.
The next training was with Pearl, and she took the liberty of teaching communication.
“Now Amethyst, in order to convey your thoughts, you need to know how to speak properly so we can know exactly what you’re talking about.”
The pearl had cue cards shuffling around and introduced the concepts of nouns, verbs, adjectives, word formation, tones, and other language components required to be able to speak.
“I can’t expect you to learn all these immediately, but we have time. We can take as slow as you need to.” Pearl reassured before Amethyst regretted any of this.
And they did.
After that it was time for the training with Coral, and she focused on gem forms. The two gems sat in Coral’s pink cloud and river transfused room. Coral stood and showcased the form she was currently in, “This here is a very simple outfit with transparent clothing around. The most important thing is that it’s comfortable and practical in any situation, especially when fighting gem monsters!”
Amethyst nodded. She took a deep dive in observing her own body features and wasn’t feeling the best with the lines all around her limbs. She focused on her gem, and with a glow of her gem and limbs, the lines on her limbs were gone!
“Well done Amethyst! That’s a good first step into owning your appearance instead of being given the form you were assigned! Now let's see, what else can I train you for?” The pearl pondered around in her room before an idea struck!
“Oh! I can teach you about summoning your own weapon! You haven’t had that right?” Coral asked before she moved on.
The purple gem shook her head, as to tell the pearl she had indeed not summoned her weapon before.
“Alright then, watch closely!” She said as she focused on the gem at her navel. The gem glowed and a handle leading to a weapon appeared. She grabbed the handle and pulled out a pink lance entwined with thorns and decorated with roses.
“This lance was crafted by a strong, beautiful bismuth. Ever since she gave it to me, I’ve been using this weapon in battle to remember her by. Most gems are able to conjure their own weapon from their gems, but I prefer this lance more than anything!”
Amethyst checked the weapon in amazement as Coral explained how to summon her own weapon.
“You could give it a shot, try to pull something out of your gem, it might not be a weapon at first, but who knows?”
Amethyst nodded, and concentrated on her gem. The gem stone glowed almost immediately. Amethyst reached for her gem, and felt something within the glow. She gripped the handle and pulled out-
A whip!
A very simple looking violet whip with purple handles, but the weapon currently did not possess anything special like shimmering stones decorated around the whip.
“Very impressive Amethyst! Don’t worry if you think it looks simple, most of the time, our weapons get improved and developed by ourselves, or other gems that can add on additional features to the weapon. Can’t wait to see you swing that rope in one of our missions some day!”
“R-really? M-mi-missions?” Amethyst responded with bewilderment that she could go on missions with them someday.
“Of course! You’re a Crystal Gem now, and you’ll be joining us in no time!”
The quartz rushed in to huge the pearl, “T-thank you!”
Coral returned the hug, “I know you’ll do great!
After the training was over, Coral led Amethyst outside to meet up with everyone else at the beach.
It was dark out, so Rose thought it would be a good idea to do a little campfire. Everyone sat around the fire, exchanged pleasantries and how crazy the snake monster fight was only a few days ago.
Amethyst sat between Rose and Coral, she looked at the two pink gems, and later peered at Pearl and Garnet, and realized this was working out better than expected.
To show her gratitude for saving her and teaching her how to be a crystal gem, she gave a little speech to thank everyone here. Within the speech, she emphasized that she understood the initial doubt of the other members and made a comparison with her rock family.
“If – new rock, fell i-into my – r-rock family, we – w-would have – said – n-no to it too! So- what – i-I try to – say, is – I – u-understand no – me – into – crystal gems, and am – glad – I am – now Crystal Gem!” That was the longest speech the new gem had tried to say without any echoing. Not only did she surprise the gems around her, but she surprised herself as well!
“Soo…these rocks, they are just rocks?” Coral confirmed, but unsurprised by the improvement since she had a previous training with her.
“Ohh, your first full complete sentences! It’s mostly in the right tones, and your grammar has greatly improved! Amethyst I’m so proud of you!” Pearl spoke with so much pride and glee.
Garnet added, “I can see that we’re going on the right path of the future.”
The leader rose and agreed, “Yes! To fixing mistakes, and to the future! Oh I can’t wait for Amethyst to be ready for her first mission! It’s going to be such an experience!”
“D-ditto!” Amethyst agreed.
End of Chapter 7.
Extras:
“Look at what this horrible place has done to you, this is no place for a gem! Gems are durable in most situations, but theres still a limit to how much we can handle!”
“I see a lot of possible outcomes, but I would never expect her to come from a place like this. It must be difficult to live without the ones you care and love.”
“It must’ve been so lonely after all those centuries, to be abandoned like this, I kinda know how you feel tho. don’t worry, we’ll take good care of you from now on”
Rose: Amethyst, im sorry I hurt you by saying all those things about your home, about the kindergarten, but you have to understand, this place could’ve looked like the flower patches we rolled in this afternoon!
“Flower patches?”
Yes, this place could’ve been another beautiful batch of flowers growing under the sun! But bad gems took all the life away, and now, no flower patches will grow here, ever again.
Notices the differences between the two similar gems, pink more kind and sweet, tries to approach her like a new friend. White looks disgusted, but trying to repress it for a reason.
Amethyst slowly gets into the whole Crystal gem thing and really, really like the company after all that time.

(A/N: Heyy there, its me. It seems that we have reached to the end of another chapter! Even though this isn't a Coral/Pinkpearl centric chapter, its still pretty fun to intepret and guess on how Amethyst came to be.
The gems might not have to go through the dilemma when recruiting Amethyst in the canon series, but i personally think an ordeal is required for Amethyst to actually trust them.
Sure the story could have been simpler and just have the new gem join in without any crisis happening, but wheres the fun in that? I personally like to have possible elements from the canon series. For example, once a while theres gonna be a gem fusion in their earlier forms, or a different gem monster that causes havoc to the gems objective, or both!
All in all, this story has been fun writing. Hopefully it cures whatever SU themed hole you have in your soul until a new series comes along.
Again, thanks for reading till the end, and i'll be posting explanations for certain artworks and why theyre like their current forms! Stay tuned!)
