Binge read through Amicus Curiae (credits to the ever talented @courtney-deserved-better for writing it) and hollllllllly shit it’s one of the best things I’ve read, like it’s helped change my perspective on a lot of these characters and it’s just so??? Fucking???? Good???

Platonic Alecourtney, the loves of my lives, I love that they understand what it’s like to be burned (in some cases quite literally) and beat down and humiliated, that they find this comfort in one another because of it but there’s still gonna be times they don’t always click, they don’t always understand!!! They love each other, they argue, they tease, they help each other, they’re just so so so so so good and the way they work together is amazing, they still have all their shit from Total Drama, they were still once villains, they’re strong and intimidating and just a little bit stupid when it comes to caring about themselves because they think they’re fine (they’re not). JUST AGAHHHHHHHHHHHHH

And the development between Kitty and Alejandro’s friendship, just the general understanding of being the younger sibling that’s underestimated, or pushed aside, granted with very different outcomes for the both of them.

Noah and Owen’s friendship as well, sure they were buddies in RR but it’s just given the time to really show and flourish because of the ever changing POVs between characters (which I really appreciate, it’s the best way to handle a RR/TD rewrite because you’re not just focusing on one person’s perspective and you only see developments that are focused around them).

Even just subtle things like how Geoff shows care for Courtney after he’s been personally stung by Alejandro, or the way that Kitty’s social skills helps benefit the Sisters in the long run because of her way to connect to people so easily!!

The fact that yes, Total Drama was an absolutely horrific and traumatic show that fucked up people far more than they like to admit and it’s just properly displayed here with Courtney’s issues with just about everything, the physical problems it’s caused Alejandro, and this sort of numbness that’s surrounded the TD contestants so that when Don, an actually sane host, does or says anything that isn’t completely fucked up, they all just have to stand and stare for a minute because (for some of them) their lives have been a constant tornado of insanity, pain and misery all under the control of Chris.

THE SISTERS DYNAMIC AS WELL OH MY GOOOOOOD, just the fact we really get to flesh out the reasoning behind Emma’s behaviour, and that Kitty is actually allowed to be upset and emotional at the way her own sister acts and treats her??? Just how complicated Emma is in general, being the oldest that has to practically mother her little sister because she didn’t have anyone else that could do it!!! The way that Kitty helps break down Emma’s walls, helps Emma find this vulnerability she’s been hiding, the care, the slow understanding and just becoming a better older sister??? Yes??? Please??? Oh my god these two

Noah and Emma’s friendship??? Like yes we actually get to see these two snarky people bounce off of each other so easily without having to worry about TD’s awful romance formula that usually scrapes both people in the relationship down to just being in a relationship, THEY HAVE BANTER!!!!

Alenoah…Alenoah my beloved, I’ll admit that I’ve never been that fussed with the ship before but god…you just get to absolutely adore the way they bounce off of each other, the teasing, the fact that Alejandro admired Noah and was genuinely hurt and wanted to be his friend in World Tour. The fact that Noah’s getting to see how Alejandro has changed and how he’s not a slippery eel, the way that Alejandro gets to see the determination that Noah has and that he’s not just lazy but an actual impressive contestant to go against. THE NICKNAMES!!! THESE GAYS ARE TRYING TO KILL ME!! Love this ship now

I also enjoy the fact that the contestants are actually talking with other contestants rather than be focused solely on their own team, which was a big issue with RR for me!!

This fic is genuinely just such a good read, like I couldn’t just read one chapter and finish there I just had to keep going, it’s so addictive and you’re just waiting to see what happens next!!

Like, oh I’m actually in love with this ship now, of course the two emotionally repressed lawyers are rivals that fall in love, of course they start out wanting to go against each other in the court of law only to truly fall in love and want to work together, to start their own firm, to be by each others side!!! TO BE SCARED OF THIS LOVE BECAUSE ALL THEYVE EVER KNOWN IS HATE, HUMILIATION AND DEVASTATION!!!

They’re Ace Attorney nerds, they shouldn’t be trusted around vehicles, they could debate for 3 hours straight with no breaks, they’re so gay for each other but they think it’s just a rivalry thing, just EVERYTHING ABOUT THEM FROM THE MOMENT THEY REALISE THE OTHER IS IN THE RACE TO THE MOMENT THEY FINALLY GET TO KISS WHEN THE CAMERAS ARE OFF AND ITS ALL OVER!!

TLDR: Amicus Curiae is such an amazing fic, you’ve got to read it, the individual characters are so wonderfully written and the development of the friendships and relationships between characters is built so well. Please, if you ever have the opportunity you’ve got to read it!!

OK OK OK SO MY BRAIN HAS BEEN GOING INSANE ABOUT AMICUS CURIAE SO I NEED TO RAMBLE ABOUT IT!!!!

OK SO. The main conflict am i right

Right now we are in a fluff sweet spot where most of the teams are on friendly terms and the main 6 aren't in conflict. However considering what the author has posted to their TD blog recently, it's definitly not staying that way.

Hell even in the current chapters it's probably not staying that way, considering Courtney's 100% caught on that there's something going on between Noah and Alejandro, and in return Alejandro's detected Courtney's crush for Emma.

So yeah! Im predicting that's gonna be the cause of the big rift that happends between the best friends; both of their feelings are going to get in the way of the win eventually in a big way. Maybe Courtney will get distracted by Emma or Alejandro's going to try to keep the Pros in the game in a way that handicaps the Best Friends for the challenge, and it'll blow up in their face, and past events are gonna be brought up and they're gonna get HURT.

I think Courtney's main reasons for being annoyed at Alejandro and Noah's friendship (outside of Courtney would like to win thanks) is her wanting Alejandro to not get hurt; Noah's already betrayed him (from his perspective), she wouldn't want him getting stabbed in the back again. I dout he'd do that, but Courtney doesn't know that!

Also whenever she'll figure out it's romantic, she's certaintly going to discourage Alejandro to go for it during the show. Dating on Reality TV is not a good idea, they both have negative experiences with it, Courtney especially. Neither would want to go through that again, so conflict arising from it makes sense.

Also also, Courtney might be afraid of losing Alejandro,,, she's lost friends due to relationship drama in the past, hell she's still struggling with the after-effects of her trust being broken so many times. So seeing Alejandro be genuine with someone else? Yeah she's not gonna react well. Im basing this off the line "Alejandro's supposed to only be genuine with her" Because it says ALOT. To me.

This is 100% aromantic projection hour but Societytm constantly pushes romantic relationships as more important than platonic ones, an impression reinforced in media and especially tabloids - Courtney and Alejandro have already been mistaken for a couple in this fic by one of the main characters due to their closeness - so i wouldn't be shocked if either had internalised this and fears losing their one actual friend because they're crushing on someone else.

I don't think Alejandro's expressed much derision for Courtney's crush on Emma yet? So im not sure the conflict on his end would come from that. I think his main issue is trying to push himself too much out of a sense of obligation to be performing at his best all the time (especially now at the final 8 teams and non elimination rounds being pretty random so far) + his guilt over previous performances in challenges. It's 100% going to bite him or Courtney (because i dout she doesn't have similar over working tendencies) in the ass in a MAJOR way in an upcoming challenge. That and their respective competitiveness is probably gonna hurt them in a major way.

FINAL NOTE: I have no fucking clue how this can happen if the final POV's not Courtney but it would be so fucking cool if the closing lines of Amicus Curiae were a parallel to the "This is a terrible idea" that Courtney kept repeating in chapter 1, you know bring it full circle and stuff.

BREAKING: Trump gets BAD NEWS from judge in major federal case

U.S. District Judge Dale E. Ho overseeing NYC Mayor Eric Adams corruption and bribery case has postponed his trial scheduled for April. Judge Ho has ruled that since the DOJ are in cahoots with the criminal Mayor there is “no adversarial testing of the Government's position” and therefore he ordered an amicus curiae to argue against the dismissal request.

The independent attorney chosen by Judge Ho is notoriously conservative Paul Clement of Clement & Murphy PLLC. Clement received his law degree from Harvard Law School and clerked for Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia. He also served as the 43rd Solicitor General of the United States from June 2005 until June 2008. Clement has argued over 100 cases before SCOTUS. He has argued more Supreme Court cases since 2000 than any other lawyer in or out of government.
