Amaryllis in Symbolism!
Apprenticember: Day 9 & 10
Patron arcana
Amaryllis’s patron is the Fool, but even pre-canon they have much more of a relationship with Death, thanks to Thana’s influence from the other side. Death is the one who has always spoken to them the most, and Death is the one they go to to make a deal to get all of their memories back. When Julian pulls his stunt to enter into the Hanged Man’s realm, Amaryllis consults Death before going to join him. They're a wreck, until Death’s cryptic message affirms that things are about to change, but not the change that they are expecting— Julian’s death.
Relationship to other arcana
Amaryllis doesn't have much of a relationship with the other arcana, except the Devil in their own reversed ending. Amaryllis is the one to make a deal with the Devil, where they stay with him in his realm for half the year, returning to Vesuvia for the other half. There, the Devil becomes infatuated with them, and they form a sort of co-dependent relationship.
Apprenticember: Day 8
Styx the Vampire Bat
Amaryllis’s familliar is Styx! He’s a tiny little vampire bat, and Amaryllis was overjoyed when one of their favorite animals ended up having such a connection with them. They meet him years ago while on a stroll through the forest, when they came across a dark and creepy cave and decided to explore. Their presence disturbed the resting bats in the cave, and out from the swarm came Styx.
Amaryllis treats Styx like a lap dog who gets carried around in a purse. They have a tiny little sling for him they wear around their chest, like a baby carrier but for a bat. In every room there’s a perch for him, and they like to keep things dark and cozy so he isn't disturbed. They're always leaving a window open for him, so he can come and go as he pleases to feed or visit others of his kind.
Styx is far more observant than he lets on, and while he has a cutesy manner of speaking, he’s often speaking up to make Amaryllis aware of the things they can't see.

Apprenticember: Day 7
— Amaryllis has three tattoos; a large bat on their back that spans the width of their shoulders, a bunch of Hemlock across their left side, and the numerals XIII in red ink on their right wrist.
— Covered in freckles from head to toe.
— Their ears hold every piercing imaginable, always sporting some sort of mixture of dangly chains and hoops and cuffs.
— Also has navel and nipple piercings.
— They have a faded, but noticeable scar that runs across the left side of their face, going from their chin and ending far too close to their eye.
— They love to pile on all sorts of rings on their fingers, only in gold finishes. It complements the long, dark, coffin manicure nicely.
— They love a darker color palette, typically opting for longer skirts with revealing details like high slits or sheer fabrics. It's highly unlikely to find them wearing pants, or flat-footed shoes.
— They love to wear heels, preferably boots, to make their already tall stature just a little more imposing.
— Sometimes, they wear a sheer veil over the bottom half of their face, and over the years it becomes less about obscuring the scar and more about the drama of it.
— They love dark makeup; eyeshadow, lip, and to finish it all off with a siren eye.
Apprenticember: Day 6
Worst Enemy
Historically, Vesper is probably their worst enemy. Once upon a time, when Amaryllis was nothing more than a neglected child, Vesper was one of the few who treated them kindly. That all took a turn when their family realized Amaryllis’s potential and forced them into a spotlight they never wanted. Amaryllis never viewed Vesper as a threat, but he did, because their parents only had room for one prodigy at a time. Over the years, Vesper's disdain for them grew and grew, until it finally came to a head in the incident that gave the both of them the scars they wear. When Amaryllis can't remember what happened, guilt-ridden Vesper is grateful for a fresh start with them, but it could only last so long.
Apprenticember: Day 5
Amaryllis & Ophélie
Amaryllis found Ophélie in an awful place during the plague, and took the girl under their wing. They introduced her to the shop, tutored her in singing, and took care of her when no one else would. Taking care of Ophélie helped Amaryllis heal from Thana’s death. It was horrible on Ophélie when Amaryllis died, but once they were back it was her turn to give back all that they’d given her. During their recovery, she never made it seem like there was something missing, just that she was so glad to have them back, however it happened.
Amaryllis & Vesper
Without the fog of the past hanging over their relationship, Amaryllis and Vesper become as close as they were once upon a time. When he first appears, after they've already lost their memories, Amaryllis is suspicious, but when Asra assures them that Vesper is their brother, they start to come around. They have no other family, at least none that Asra is willing to tell them about, and Vesper is the only one who came looking for them. They really do have the sibling dynamic, arguments over pointless things, peer pressuring the other into drinking too much, teasing the other about everything. When Amaryllis knows Vesper is the only person they can really go to for an unbiased and unguarded opinion on really anything.
Amaryllis & Mazelinka
Pre-canon, Amaryllis of course met Mazelinka through Julian. After their memories are gone through, they track her down in search for a magical treatment for Ophélie’s narcolepsy. Amaryllis visits weekly for the little potion she makes, and tends to end up helping her around the house, or making runs to the market for her.
Amaryllis & Barth
Amaryllis is also very good friends with Barth, being such a frequent customer at the Rowdy Raven. Amaryllis always tips 100% on their tab, and will provide some crowd control whenever things get a little too rowdy.
Apprenticember: Day 3
Amaryllis & Asra
Amaryllis and Asra have been close friends for close to a decade, and once upon a time was their closest friend. Amaryllis led Asra to the shop to become their aunt’s apprentice, and they drifted apart briefly when Amaryllis took the position in Lucio’s court. But their relationship was strengthened after Thana’s death. After Amaryllis’s ressurection, their relationship is dicey at best. They’re used to having all of the information, and Asra’s secrecy drives them mad. The relationship is strained, but there’s still the ghost of what once was that keeps it together.
Amaryllis & Muriel
Amaryllis only knows Muriel from stories Asra has told them, the circumstances before the plague never allowed them to meet properly. Their one and only meeting, at the Lazaret, Amaryllis was too delirious to ever remember, and Muriel was the last person to see them alive. During the events of canon, they eventually meet through Vesper, but Muriel is very suspicious of them, not fully trusting that it’s really them. As time goes on, Muriel tries, mostly for the sake of Vesper and Asra, and truthfully if there wasn't the concern that Amaryllis could be some sort of evil, reanimated corpse, they would have been fast friends much sooner.
Amaryllis & Nadia
Amaryllis was wary of Nadia at first, mostly because they were already well aware of who she was, and that family she comes from knows the family they left. But after the initial meeting between the two where Amaryllis’s secret was not found out, they became quick friends. At the palace, most of the time the two could be found up late, avoiding Lucio, drinking off in the gardens or in Nadia’s quarters. For the most part, it was a surface level friendship where they were brought together by their annoyance of Lucio or the courtiers, but sometimes each of them would offer the other a glimpse beyond the surface.
Amaryllis & Lucio
Generally, Amaryllis cannot stand Lucio. If it wasn't for the veiled threats and large salary he promised them when he demanded that they come perform for him, they would have never had anything to do with the man. They hate the part of them that wasn't strong enough to avoid his grasp. After a while, he starts to remind them more and more of Vesper, and sometimes, not out of affection for Lucio, but out of guilt, softness towards him slips through. When they wake to find they’ve contracted the plague, Lucio is the only person they can say goodbye to in person.
Amaryllis & Portia
Amaryllis and Portia bond by being the only two on Julian’s side during the events of the story, they find her to be a refreshing presence in the palace, and ironically enough, pushes her to confess her feelings to Nadia. The three of them definitely have lots of girl’s nights (no Julians allowed) at the palace.
Amaryllis and Oak, for all.
🌹 floral asks
Amaryllis: What accomplishment are they the proudest of?
Amaryllis: Leaving home
Vesper: Also leaving home
Ophélie: Actually going to an audition
Oak: Have they ever had a magical mishap?
Amaryllis: Insert various fire mishaps here
Vesper: Definitely accidentally summoning he shouldn’t have
Ophélie: She hasn’t accessed her magic, so I’d say having a familiar but not realizing it is something of a mishap
