“La niña y el viento" by Francisco Amighetti, 1968 or 1969
Kagey Art Thoughts 12:
Again, uncertain date due to seeing multiple ones.
I’m not very familiar with Amighetti, and it’s difficult to say exactly what style this artwork is. It’s obviously a little abstract, maybe impressionist-ish? I dunno, I’m not a master at identification in any sense. Oh, and I think it’s cool that this is wood, so the tree lines look like wind.
Anyway so I’m pretty sure the title translates to “the girl and the wind”, and that’s also obviously what is depicted. The girl is a little scary-looking actually, with half her face inverted in color, but you can see her hair and dress as well as the plant being buffeted by the wind. There’s also a bird? I’m not sure what that thing in the sky is supposed to be, but I’m thinking it’s either a bird or a random branch.
It looks like the wind is being created by four large heads blowing, and it’s possible that this represents people in the girl’s life that she does not want to deal with and the wind is representative of the problems they give her. However, I like to think that the heads are in fact the Anemoi, the Greek gods of directional winds, and the wind is not something the girl has a say in, it’s just a fact of nature (or supernature?) she has to accept.
