This was it. This was the crowning moment of her career.
She'd joined the rock-paper-scissors contest they were holding as a promotion for a nearby department store on a whim, and not because she really had any sort of a marked interest in whatever the prize they were offering was. (She thought it might have been an oversized plush animal? A stuffed unicorn? Or maybe that was the second place prize, these were probably details she should have known before she signed whatever the blood oath of RPS Competitions had entailed.)
But she'd joined it, and somehow by some god-given grace she'd managed to advance all the way to the final round of the tournament. People would probably be speaking for years of how nobody had expected Newcomer Akane Kurashiki to throw down paper six times in a row, but here she was. And now she was in it to win it.
Standing across from her was a taller man, with straw-blonde hair and a floppy hat. Judging from the expression on his face, he was probably, like, a rock-paper-scissors champion, or something. At least, he probably had to be, seeing as he had made it all the way to the final round! Smiling cheerfully, Akane nodded her head politely. The match wouldn't start for another few minutes, so there was no harm in getting to know her opponent, was there?
"This is pretty exciting, isn't it? Looks like a lot of people gathered here to see the world-famous rock-paper-scissors champion in action!"
