Today I finally finished my custom Breath of the Wild amiibo display! And the final touch comes on friday!!!
And so, I treated myself to a belated birthday gift. One that I’ll definitely treasure forever.
Splatoon Amiibo Display Stand Update Pt. 1
Previous post here for project intro.
OK, time to try printing the upper disk of the display stand - the bit that inklings spawn from:
Because this piece is wider than my printer’s build plate, I had to split it in half to make it fit. The disk is made of black ABS and translucent PETG. My first attempt involved printing them together using dual extruders. I’ve never done mixed ABS / PETG before, but I decided to give it a shot. The results were sort of underwhelming:
Because the two plastics cool at different rates, part of the disk got warped and snapped about 10 minutes in (also my slicing software tried to mix clear and black infill for some reason). Let’s try that again with the infill fixed and a bit of Z offset:
Alright, clearly a mixed-tech print is not in the stars today. Time to do this the old-fashioned way - split the parts by color and print on a single extruder:
Not a bad result, but does it all fit together? ....
So, off to a decent start. Needs some epoxy fill for the seams though, as well as a good sanding / polishing. Onwards...

Toying with my amiibo and Donkey Kong display and parts of other toys serving as Pauline’s lost items from the old Donkey Kong arcade game (and the 94 gameboy game). One Boo is wearing ‘Pauline’s hat’ Wario has her ‘purse’, and Mario has ‘Pauline’s parasol”. Diddy’s tossing the barrels, I gave Walugi some dynamite that came from a old toy I still have and Luigi has a mallet. I had Wario with it, but it fell after I moved him a bitand I couldn’t get it to stay again. Toyed with Bowser and peach (didn’t bother with an image with her) but it was already busy enough lol.
1)Mario returning Pauline’s “lost accessories” after dropping the hammer and reaching her. (just old toy pieces I got cheap off ebay.
2) Ticked off DK about to climb up and grab Pauline.
3 and 4) Donkey Kong’s trap. (and natural lighting)
Image of the Donkey Kong amiibo display that looks to be like the Mario goalpost display in that you can unassemble and reassemble it, and connect more displays to make it larger.
