There was a merciful voice inside of Neon’s head, trying to talk her out of her spiteful outburst.
She clearly regrets what she did. That’s not who she is. This isn’t who you are. You didn’t even have to approach her in the first place.
But the other, much louder part of her mind was just playing back memories of her early teens and shouting Regret doesn’t un-pull my tail and un-call me a dirty animal.
You didn’t get a choice either.
“Oh, yeah. Not having any friends. Can’t imagine what a horrible fate that must be.” She scoffed and shook her head before she continued. She should have just walked away; gone back inside her mom’s bakery and kept the first visit to Menagerie she’d had in years full of only happy times. But where would the fun be in that.
“Of course you had a choice. And you chose the one that was easiest for you; the path of least resistance.”
