A Day With Jae (requested)
Note: This is my first ever fan fiction and I have experimented with new techniques like thoughts. This is for @katefrancesca
Your loud steps slap the tarmac loudly as you’re running through the bustling streets as fast as you could. You just manage to dodge the people on the street. You were meant to leave ages ago from work but the recruit at the office had questions. You couldn’t possibly blame the new employee. It was her first job after all and you had to answer her questions as the head of the department. You left a half hour late from work and you’re really annoyed at yourself. You couldn’t even contact him because it was the best time for your phone to run out of battery.
I should’ve charged it yesterday, you think to yourself.
You could’ve gotten out of bed to get the charger but you were too busy texting and then you fell asleep.
Aaaaaaaaaaargh! You scream inside your head out of annoyance
You knew how hard it is for Jae to meet with you because of his busy schedule. He finally made time for you and you manage to be late! It’s a war inside with all your thought running wild.
Will he be upset because I’m late? You worry as you frantically dodge and apologise to the old women you almost crashed into.
You finally reach the cafe you both decided to meet at and look inside through the windows. The place brought some good memories. It was the cafe you both first met at and you slowly start to reminisce that day. Oh, how he looked at you occasionally from his table...
Wait...where is Jae?
You can’t see him at any of the tables and you quickly scan over everyone several times.
“Oh no,” you mutter under your breath.
You scan one last time and then notice the person with a familiar pastel pink hoodie at the cashier. The person turns around holding two orange cups decorated with pictures of pumpkins for Halloween.
It was Jae.
His hood half-covered his wispy, messy blond hair while his black-rimmed glasses hang on the edge of his nose. He resembled Chicken Little so much with those glasses of his but you wouldn’t dare tell him that if he was upset right now. His mouth stretched to a small smile as soon as his eyes met yours. You breathe a sigh of relief to see that he was happy to see you even if you were late. You continue watching him as he quickly walks out of the shop and hands you a cup.
“Caramel macchiato with extra caramel, just the way you like it. Careful, it's hot,” Jae says while pushing up his glasses.
“Thanks...when did you arrive?”
“I just arrived. It hasn’t been long.”
You feel even more guilty for arriving late.
Isn’t that what everyone says even though they’ve been waiting for more than twenty minutes?
“I’m so sorry that I came so late. My phone’s battery died so I couldn’t-”
“Hey, you don’t need to apologise,” Jae interrupts. “This isn’t as worse as me arriving late for most of our previous dates.”
It was a good thing that he didn’t get upset. Not that he normally does but you were still worried that you might have hurt his feelings by arriving late considering the limited time you both could spend together. Quietly, you sigh once more and take a small sip from the cup.
“It tastes so good!” you say as the sweet flavour of the caramel hits you. ”So...umm...what should we do?”.
“How about going to the park? It’s only a block away from here.”
In agreement, you both start walking towards the park while the sound of your and Jae's shoes echoes simultaneously. The orange colours of autumn flutter down occasionally, leaving the branches of trees empty. You both reach the park by the time both of you have finished your coffee. Jae quickly grabs your cup out of your hand. Before you can insist, he runs towards the bin.
You take a deep breath of the smell of the park while you wait for him to come back. The weather was pleasant and the fresh aroma of the grass combined with the scent of fall was just...perfect. Jae rushes back before you notice and quickly slips his hand into your right hand. You feel the warmth of his hands spread throughout your body. A shy smile spreads across your face. Without warning, Jae starts to walk and pulls you along with him. The leaves crunch under both Jae's and your feet as you find your balance.
You raise your head to look at him in the light of the sunset. The golden light shining on his face only made him look flawless. You silently wish that you could stay with him forever and every moment you spend together would be just as beautiful. You keep walking while listening to the simultaneous beat of both of your footsteps resonate as Jae and you continue walking deeper on the amber path.
