Nothing pisses me off as much as the Divergent films (and, by extension, a subset of the fandom) conflating Amity valuing peace with them valuing *kindness.*
Like. Drugged bread to keep people complacent/peaceful, them canonically being the Faction Candor considers the most dishonest because “You cannot have peace without deception” (I’m paraphrasing the quote, but the sentiment is pretty clearly there in one of the first two books), the fact that they offered sanctuary to the Dauntless/Abnegation refugees, but also just openly stated that no, they will not be partaking in the war at all.
Those are not the actions of people who value kindness. Those are the actions of people who would prioritize the *illusion* of peace over the violence it would take to be *kind.*
