After attending my first ever 5SOS show on Friday night, I can honestly tell you, Amnesia live is such an emotional experience. And I feel it’s genuinely just as emotional for them as it is for us. Like, imagine hearing stadiums STILL singing your song back to you like that nearly twelve years after its release. A beloved song from your first album being recited back to you like that after you’ve followed said first album up with five more.
On Friday night they gave a beautifully sentimental speech (whilst the Amnesia instrumental was playing in the background the whole time, mind you) about how “we’ve been a band for a long time and we’ve made six albums together,” and then Calum said “so, if you don’t feel it already, I’m gonna clear the air. 5 Seconds of Summer fucking loves you. Thank you guys for being here.”
And then they led into Amnesia. Which they let us sing SO much of. Both with and for them. And the moments where they went completely silent and just listen to us sing it back to them absolutely DESTROYED me.
I knew going into the concert that hearing Amnesia live would hit me. Especially as a long time fan who still remembers the chokehold Amnesia had on me upon its release. But I did not expect it to hit me that hard. I am genuinely getting emotional just typing this post.
Forever thankful to 5SOS for letting me share in that experience. I’ll never forget it. 💜
