Badeline from Celeste by Amora
It’s a good week for highly anticipated pixel art games. Not only Iconoclasts, also Celeste (@celestegame) just released!
The original game’s been one of Pico-8 favorites (you can still play it here), so much so that developer Matt Thorson a.k.a. @mattmakesgames (of TowerFall fame) put his next game Skytorn on the back burner so that he and pixel artist Noel Berry a.k.a. @noelfb (with additional art from @studiominiboss) could make a proper big release of it. The result is an intricate precision platformer, praised for everything from its story to a great soundtrack by Lena Raine a.k.a. Radical Dreamland.
I love the green (jungle?) levels that I haven’t seen before—apparently featuring lots of Saint11′s work, so I’m not even surprised. Now if only I wouldn’t get so stressed with this genre … Yeah, I’ll have to leave this one to you, mountain climbers. Go enjoy your zen, this game is a love letter to your sport, and to speed-running and excellent game design.
Celeste is out now on Windows, Mac, Linux (Steam or Itch.io) as well as Switch, PS4, and X1 at $20.
