Have you ever seen a Savi’s spectacled salamander (Salamandrina perspicillata)… without spectacles? I did thanks to my @elenacanessa who found it yesterday while I was busy photographing other ones into the water. Each individual is unique and every mutation from “the norm” is another way nature shows us how we must care about everyone of them, on Earth. #amphibian #amphibianweek #salamandrina #dark #black #blackmetalsalamander #melanic #conservation #italy #herping #herpingtheglobe @ilcp_photographers @naturepicturelibrary https://www.instagram.com/p/CdD8jtDKoXd/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
Next week is #AmphibianWeek !!! I am very excited to participate in the first international Amphibian Week. Even though it doesn't start until Monday, I thought I would post a picture of the species that started it all for me. My undergraduate research project on Spotted Salamanders (and Wood Frogs) started a direct path to where I am today. I am still laser focused on amphibians ... ... and yes, I still get funny looks. Worth it. (at The Amphibian Foundation) https://www.instagram.com/p/CAvI1xph9aQ/?igshid=b8hpjrs30cay
Day 4th of #amphibianweek Here’s the delicate moment in early Spring when fire salamanders (Salamandra Salamandra) give birth to their larvae directly into the stream’s water. Once into the water, the larvae will actively feed upon a wide variety of aquatic fauna, like the small insects larvae you can see on the whitish rock on the left side of this image. One of the various incredible morphs of the strawberry poison-dart frog (Oophaga pumilio) photographed in its own environment in Panama’s Bocas del Toro provincie. This shot closes my personal #amphibianweek but as you can probably guess, this is surely not the last frog-related image I’ll post until the end of the year. #amphibian #frog #strawberrypoisondartfrog #oophaga #bocasdeltoro #panama #amphibianweek2021 #conservation #biodiversity #color #picoftheday @ilcp_photographers https://www.instagram.com/p/COoPLt6gpBQ/?igshid=6im6cj8vxqs3
Hmmmmmm — a whole week dedicated to amphibians? I'm down. #AmphibianWeek starts tomorrow. Please join AF and many other #PartnersInSlime Let's get #AmphibiousAF up in here. (at The Amphibian Foundation) https://www.instagram.com/p/CA27gp6M0MP/?igshid=xj7qzwlnhbte
Hey! It’s still #AmphibianWeek so I’m keeping on posting, by celebrating one of my preferred and uniquely Italian Amphibians: the Spectacled Salamanders. This is one of the two species: Salamandrina perspicillata. Here’s a “duo” of images of the deposition frenzy that is going on right now in a beautiful place close to my hometown. Tens of females gather in small rock pools of little streams to deposit their eggs on walls and submerged stems. It’s a wonderful phenomenon that I never want to miss, each year. #amphibian #salamander #salamandrinaperspicillata #salamandrina #underwater #isotta_underwater_housings #nikon #wideangle #spring #picoftheday @ilcp_photographers @amphibianfoundation https://www.instagram.com/p/CdGua2IqauJ/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
