Amputation-Free India: Awareness Walk Spreads Hope in Hyderabad
Thousands of people across the country lose their legs or feet every year due to vascular diseases — conditions that affect blood flow through the arteries and veins. Experts emphasize that many of these amputations can be prevented through early diagnosis, timely treatment, and increased public awareness.
To promote this message, the Vascular Association of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh (VASTA) organized an awareness walk in Hyderabad today. The event brought together doctors, medical students, and citizens from different walks of life, united by a common goal — to spread awareness about vascular health and the importance of prevention.
The initiative aimed to educate people on recognizing early warning signs such as persistent leg pain while walking, non-healing foot wounds, or dark patches on the toes — symptoms that may indicate poor blood circulation. Early detection and treatment, experts say, can often prevent the need for amputation.
Participants at the event also highlighted that conditions such as diabetes, smoking, and high blood pressure significantly increase the risk of vascular diseases. They encouraged individuals to adopt simple yet powerful lifestyle changes — including quitting smoking, maintaining healthy blood sugar levels, exercising regularly, and checking their feet daily.
The association urged people, especially those with diabetes or long-standing health issues, to undergo regular vascular and foot examinations. Raising awareness and seeking timely medical advice can help prevent serious complications and improve quality of life.
The walk concluded with participants taking a collective pledge to work towards an “Amputation-Free India.” The event served as a strong reminder that most amputations are preventable — with awareness, early intervention, and consistent care, countless limbs and lives can be saved.
