Amy (2015)
“She had one of the most pure relationships to music. Such an emotional relationship to music. It's like she needed music, as if it was a person, and that she would die for it.”

...life teaches you really how to live, if you could live long enough...
Tony Bennett, AMY ( 2015 doc) (2:02:17)
I’ma be brave...
When it comes to music I’m an eclectic listener who sometimes, out of the blue, sits with a particular genre for some weeks before listening to a mix of other genres again. Lately I’ve been in a heavy jazz mood and the late great Amy Winehouse crossed my mind today.
For some odd ass reason I felt the urge to watch that 2015 Amy documentary on her life for the first time. I say odd because I’ve always said I could never watch another doc on a fallen star ever again after watching The Last Days of Left Eye eleven years ago. That documentary fucked me up!
Recently I watched Quincy (on Quincy Jones), I Called Him Morgan (on Lee Morgan), and Chasing Trane (on John Coltrane). I’ve already started watching a little of Amy (and paused it twice so far smh). I felt an eerie vibe from the moment they showed that opening clip of her singing “Happy Birthday” just because. Hopefully I’ll make it through to the end...🙃
SN: I will forever be pissed that Amy’s supergroup with Raphael Saadiq, Questlove, and Mos Def (Yasiin Bey) never got a chance to be. The thought alone gives me chills 😩
